At a special shareholder meeting on November 13, 1918, Mr. Hershey, who had no heirs of his own, set aside 5000 of his equity shares of the chocolate company as an endowment to benefit orphaned boys of Pennsylvania. News of the gift was not learned until 5 years later.

@TrevDon That Sunday gold medal game was the only Sunday I recall my father missing church. My dad was salt-of-the earth: served in the Air Force after graduation, worked from dawn to dusk as a warehouse manager, loved his family, God, and country. Country came first that day.
