@AriMeghlen @RPoli3 Mostly I just tell them I'm retired and the wait for the awkward silence. Sometimes they ask what I do to stay busy. Other times, it's just "Oh, that's nice" with about the same tone they would use to say "Oh, they made him look so natural!"

@RPoli3 @AriMeghlen My fiction is from the Civil War and early post-Civil War. I use some of my ancestors' first names only and otherwise just first names that were common at that time.
