It was a pleasure to receive Chinenye Anaemena and members of the Young Communicators Initiative on a courtesy visit to NILDS.

Our discussions focused on building strategic partnerships around capacity development, youth engagement in governance, and strengthening policy communication for democratic growth.

I commend their passion and commitment to contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s democratic process. NILDS remains open to collaborations that promote knowledge exchange, civic education, and a more informed, participatory society.

As we move closer to the primaries, we must not forget that Kwara is in dire need of a more than capable hands, beyond any groundless sentiment. Let’s not make mistake of trusting our state in the hands of people who just want to do politics with the lives of Kwarans. We must trust someone who doesn’t only bring proven leadership experience and public sector successes, but also someone whose value for education is sky-high. Like I have said before, look around the states that are doing well economically and in education, their leaders are very educated, knowledgeable and have proven records in their respective previous positions.

National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS, on Wednesday, 22nd April 2026, hosted a public lecture on the theme: “Nigerian Federalism and the Paradox of Inclusion: Evaluating Federal Character and the Crisis of National Identity.”

The event brought together scholars, policymakers, legislative experts, and members of the public to examine challenges within Nigeria’s federal structure and explore pathways for stronger national integration.

In his opening remarks, the Director General, NILDS, Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman emphasized that Nigeria’s unity and federalism depend not only on strong institutions but also on genuine political will. He noted that Nigeria’s diversity spanning over 200 ethnic groups and multiple religions requires a functional federal system that balances power between the centre and federating units while respecting cultural identities.

Delivering the lecture, Prof. Iro Uke of the University of Abuja noted that while Nigeria operates a federal system, its structure often reflects unitary tendencies shaped by historical and political factors. He highlighted challenges such as the indigene-settler divide, ethnic and religious tensions, and the politicization of public institutions, all of which undermine national unity.

As His Royal Highness, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari clocks 86 today, I join the Ilorin Emirate, Kwara State, and well-wishers across the world in celebrating a remarkable monarch whose life continues to reflect grace, wisdom, and enduring service to humanity.

Mai Martaba remains a towering symbol of peace and unity, whose reign has contributed immensely to stability, development, and the strengthening of cultural values within the Ilorin Emirate and beyond. His leadership continues to inspire confidence, respect, and admiration across generations.

As we celebrate this milestone, I pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) continues to bless our Royal Father with sound health, long life, and renewed strength to keep guiding the Emirate and contributing to the peace and progress of our dear state and nation.
