I've received a response from Cllr Scott regarding the proposals to change Crouch Street West. I have been informed that @Essex_CC will be reviewing the plans to assess how residents concerns can be taken into account. I am pleased residents and businesses are being listened to.
@SamGoodBID @willbramhill As fo the man from ECC, nice man, seemed to listen and discussed many aspects of the overall plan but Crouch St didn't seem to have any options other than those we had on the table. Hence, it was not a consultation. I was told what was happening.
@SamGoodBID @willbramhill I met a Bid director. It was to TELL me what was happening with the parking spaces He also said he couldn't discuss anything to do with the rest of the plans in Crouch St at that time. No follow up meeting happened although it was offered.
@Jim_Clayton @willbramhill Thanks for the offer of a meeting but this is for the Friends of Crouch St to discuss not me. So I will politely decline your offer and wait for a meeting with the group.
@willbramhill Thanks but my facts seem to be different to yours. We are told by ECC there will be 11 spaces which may reduce further due to sight issues from the entrances on the South side, not 15 which was an estimate very early in the process. And btw we close at 2:30 on weekdays.
@AlanJCritchley The problems with the narrow spaces was, I'm told because the lines were painted too close together. The original spaces are fine. The traffic will back up more with everyone having to parallel park in fewer spaces, holding up the flow as there will not be space to pass.
@catch56 @iwovedup Or maybe keeping the subway which is far safer. Or maybe widening it and getting rid of the unsafe crossing entirely? Not sure, I'm not a planner. This is only 100m of the entire East/West route and most of the cash is being spent here. I'm sure it could be better spent.
@2_Wheeled_Wolf @TDHColc @iwovedup We think that this misuse of the loading bay and cycle lane is beyond a joke. I don't understand why this is not checked and tickets issued but there seems to be no-one to do this anymore. Why this area didn't have bollards to stop vehicle access from day 1 is beyond me
@EcargoC@EffZed We see everyone as valued customers, we have more pedestrain and cyclist customers than car users but these plans are not fit for purpose and extremely wasteful in their current form.
We want an inclusive debate with all groups to find a solution that fits all.
We love Crouch Street with its variety of independent shops including the fabulous @HGuntonLtd. We support the plans to improve walking, cycling and the public realm and worked hard to achieve a compromise solution that retained as many parking spaces as possible.
@catch56 @iwovedup In most cases it is normal to move crossings away from roundabouts, as it is not safe for pedestrians, like the crossing on Cymbeline Way. This plan will move the pedestrians slightly closer to the roundabout but put cyclists even closer. It needs change but not in this way
Supporting local residents and businesses at their public meeting today to outline their concern and opposition to the Crouch Street West proposals. Huge turnout showing the considerable opposition to the plans as they stand. Now is the time to hit the pause button and re-think.
@AlanJCritchley The new parking will cause more congestion and fumes than the current arrangement as to park you will need to hold up the flow of traffic. It also means to get out of a car the driver will have to open their door into the flow of traffic and cyclists. Not as safe as now
I'm all for cycling and public realm investment in Colchester city centre but it's vital that we maintain the unique character of destinations like Crouch Street West. I have asked Cllr Lee Scott to hit the pause button and address the concerns of local residents and businesses.
