@jimmymumu@ntahall@OldSheffield The council has a long record of failing to use its powers to protect this building. Article 4 was not used, campaigners petitioned for this. A proposed conservation area could have protected this building - @iqbal_mazher summarily prevented that from going forward.
@jimmymumu@ntahall@OldSheffield No, the council didn't 'fight to save this building'. Viable schemes that included retention were rebuffed. The planning committee (different to 9-5 planning officers) rejected a plan for demolition that planning officers recommended. Govt inspectors over-ruled.
The Old Coroners Court, junction of Nursery Street and Wicker Lane , built in 1913 has been demolished. Several groups including @HHBuildings have campaigned against its loss. Photo credit @ntahall
Another unique building lost #Sheffield
@HawksleyWendy There just is no obvious public benefit to justify such harm. Most likely the developer knows this too and is hoping to pave the way towards something unpleasant, but not this unpleasant..
@HawksleyWendy It's a Grade 2 listed building, and whilst we know it has not been beyond SCC in the past to approve demolition of listed buildings for the sake of 'public benefit' (see https://t.co/VCywRIBVd1) - the chances of this being approved are extremely remote
