The Ministry of Health and Social Services has selected 52 young people who have completed Grade 12 and give them scholarships (not through NSFAF).

These young people will be deployed to various universities to study critical areas identified for Namibia’s health sector. The rationale is upon completion of their studies, these young people will contribute meaningfully to our health sector

The U.S. Embassy in Namibia is deeply saddened by the passing of Jacob Hamutenya, a cherished member of our Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni community. Jacob was known for his unwavering dedication to youth empowerment, sustainable agriculture, and community development.

A 2017 Mandela Washington Fellow, Jacob made significant contributions to Namibia, particularly through his leadership at the Agro-Marketing and Trade Agency (AMTA) and the National Youth Service. His work with the National Fresh Produce Business Hub in Ongwediva showcased his passion for uplifting young people and advancing rural development.

Jacob’s efforts gained global recognition, including his induction into the Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni Association of Nigeria (MWFAAN) Legacy Conference Hall of Fame in 2024, celebrating his commitment to collective progress and transformative change. One of Jacob’s notable achievements was the Youth-led Integrated Lucerne and Orchard Project in Engela Village, which provided sustainable solutions for livestock farmers and created employment for local youth, embodying his vision for community empowerment. Jacob's pursuit of growth was also evident in his recent achievement of a Senior Management Development qualification. His leadership and commitment to transformative change were always evident.

Jacob’s passion, commitment, and leadership will be greatly missed. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who were inspired by his work. His impact on youth and rural development will never be forgotten. 💙

May his legacy continue to inspire. 🕊️
