@Joeshmo58908251 The fact that 53 of them could die and Douglas could have done something to prevent even more from dying but he flat out chooses not to, is even, even worse. #AuburnWorldHistory
The fact that the University of Chicago has memorials and a full-on bronze bust of Douglas on their campus is genuinely sad. It's also confusing considering that they tried so hard to cover up and remove themselves from that part of their history. #AuburnWorldHistory
The fact that Douglas was informed that he had "lost 53 of his slaves in 16 months and 10 or 15 more would die if there was not a change in management in a short time" and did absolutely nothing shows how truly evil this man was. #AuburnWorldHistory
Knowing that your slaves were being worked and beaten to literal death and that replacing those that had died would cost him a lot of money is one of the most sadistic things I have ever heard. #AuburnWorldHistory
"I think much of the Left right now, being very autonomous and anarchical, is actually reinforcing the endgame of neoliberalism." I've never thought about it this way using the "mirror of what it is trying to destroy" reference but it makes a lot of sense. #AuburnWorldHistory
Thinking like that never gets you anywhere and it a slippery slope. You need to be able to empathize with all viewpoints relating to the subject, even if you don't agree with them. #AuburnWorldHistory
"There’s a tendency in the social sciences, which I tend to resist, to seek a single-bullet theory of something. So there’s a wing of people who say that, well, neoliberalism is an ideology and so they write an idealist history of it." #AuburnWorldHistory
“Mr. President, I'm not saying we wouldn't get our hair mussed. But I do say no more than ten to twenty million killed, tops. Uh, depending on the breaks.” & “Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!” two quotes that got me to chuckle. #AuburnWorldHistory
@camriley_ She is a very intelligent woman and provides a very well-thought-out and well-spoken explanation behind many of Africa's troubles. #AuburnWorldHistory
She also notes that if Africa connected all of its power lines today it would provide power to 30 million more people and save $20 billion in the process. #AuburnWorldHistory
Dr. Chihombori Quao is an extremely smart woman and in her speech, she explains how many, if not all, of Africa's current issues, can be traced back to the berlin conference. #AuburnWorldHistory
She states how many of the issues relate to the fact the continent of Africa has been separated into different countries. The different currencies make it harder for intra-African trade to thrive because it's so hard to exchange the currencies. #AuburnWorldHistory
“We want to set the world on fire, we want freedom and justice and a chance to build for ourselves. And if we must set the world on fire . . . we will, like other men, die for the realization of our dreams.” #AuburnWorldHistory
