Manatees are slow-moving herbivores, with low metabolic rates, and can’t tolerate temps <20 C (68 F). Outram Bangs wrote that unusually low temps during the Great Freeze of 1894-1895 resulted in the death of ~5 manatees in the Indian River, FL #ManateeMonday

We spent a busy but fulfilling day yesterday at the #ManateeFest in Riviera Beach representing the Manatee Project. We educated many visitors about our photo ID project on the manatees that congregate in the ship canal @HarborBranch
