HKUST (Guangzhou) just launched the Zhenhai Bay Coastal Ecosystem Field Station — a groundbreaking initiative to unlock the power of mangroves in fighting climate change! 🔬

[HKUST Guangzhou @HKUSTGuangzhou]

Unlocking the secrets of "#BlueCarbon" 🌊🔬

At HKUST(GZ), our team from Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences Thrust has established an observation and research station for the Zhenhai Bay coastal ecosystems in Jiangmen, #Guangdong, China.

This state-of-the-art station, led by Professor Jinshu CHl, focuses on decoding the "blue carbon" of coastal ecosystems such as #mangrove through long-term, high-frequency data collection.

"Blue carbon" refers to carbon captured by the world's #ocean and #coastal ecosystems. Mangrove ecosystems, which are crucial for #biodiversity conservation and maintaining ecological balance in coastal areas, are an important subject in blue carbon research.

Located in the most pristine and expansive mangrove area of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in China, this research station underscores our commitment to carbon sequestration enhancement, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development. 🌍💚 #InnovativeHKUSTGuangzhou
