Urgent Follow-Up: As Northern Governors Meet Today - Stand Firm for Plateau!

Your Excellency,

As the 19 Northern States Governors' Forum convenes today in Kaduna, I write with urgency to remind you that Plateau's future hangs in the balance. This strategic meeting will shape security decisions that could either protect or endanger our state's sovereignty.

The Central Issue: State Police vs. Regional Police

Your Excellency, if proposals for regional police structures emerge today, you must stand firm in rejecting them. The solution to our security challenges is state police, not regional police. Here's why this distinction is critical:

Why State Police, Not Regional Police?

1. Local Control: State police answers to you and Plateau citizens. Regional police answers to a forum of 19 governors with competing interests—and we know whose interests will be prioritized.

2. Our Unique Reality: Plateau's security challenges differ fundamentally from Sokoto's Boko Haram concerns or Zamfara's banditry. We face systematic land grabs and targeted attacks on Christian communities. A regional force won't understand or prioritize these peculiarities.

3. Historical Betrayal: Since 2001, when Jos, Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, and Mangu burned, where was regional solidarity? The same "Northern leaders" now proposing unified security offered no collective action when we bled. Why should we trust them with control over our security now? When theirs finally a chance for our state to have security autonomy?

4. Operational Autonomy: State police allows you to recruit from our communities, deploy based on our intelligence, and respond to our priorities. Regional police means waiting for approval from Kaduna headquarters while our villages burn.

The Regional Police Trap

Your Excellency, be wary of attractive-sounding proposals like the "5% FAAC contribution to Northern Security Trust Fund." This is how they'll sell it: shared burden, collective security, regional cooperation. But ask the hard questions:

-Who controls deployment priorities?
- Which communities get protected first?
- How do we ensure operatives don't sympathize with those who've attacked us?

What We Expect From You Today

As discussions unfold, we need you to:

Be Courageous: Stand firm even if you're the lone dissenting voice. Our people didn't elect you to win popularity contests—they elected you to protect Plateau's interests.

Be Resolute: Don't be swayed by eloquent speeches about unity from those who ignored our suffering. Insist on state police with these non-negotiables:
- Full operational control by Plateau State
- Recruitment from our communities
- Direct command structure answering to you

Be Diplomatic: Build alliances with Benue, Nasarawa, Southern Kaduna chiefs, and other Middle Belt governors. Propose state police as the constitutional alternative. Acknowledge shared concerns while firmly rejecting solutions that don't serve us.

Be Strong: If they pressure you to sign communiqués endorsing regional structures, refuse. History will judge you by whether you protected your people, not by the agreements you signed in Kaduna.

A Final Word

Your Excellency, the same governors meeting today offered no "regional solutions" when thousands of our people were massacred. They want regional police now not for our security but for regional control. Don't give them that power.

Your Excellency,

I write as a concerned son of Plateau State regarding rumours about a proposed regional police structure across Northern Nigeria. In every rumour lies an element of truth, and the implications for our state demand urgent attention.

Our Unique Reality

Plateau State's peculiarities can not be overstated. We are predominantly Christian, sitting at the Middle Belt crossroads with a history, culture, and demographic composition fundamentally different from the far north. Yet decisions made for "Northern interest" have systematically marginalized our people.

The narrative of Northern unity has rarely favoured Christian minorities of Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, Southern Kaduna, and Southern Kwara. Our indigenous rights, lands, and voices have been consistently overlooked.

Where Was the North When We Bled?

Your Excellency, where was this regional solidarity when Plateau burned? Since 2001, our communities have endured relentless attacks from jihadist groups. Thousands killed, villages razed, farmlands seized—yet the region now proposing unified security remained silent. There were no regional summits or collective action when Jos North, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bokkos, and Mangu cried for help.

Why Regional When State Police Is Viable?

If security is the concern, why settle for regional police when state police is constitutional? Each state faces unique challenges requiring localized solutions. A regional force will inevitably prioritize certain areas over others—and history teaches us that Plateau's concerns will be secondary.

Critical questions arise: Who controls operational priorities? Which communities receive protection first? How do we ensure operatives won't harbour sympathies for our attackers? How do we prevent this force from becoming another instrument of oppression against Christian minorities?

The Hidden Agenda

Your Excellency, what is the true motive? Genuine security, or strategic consolidation of control to further marginalize dissenting communities? The timing suggests motives beyond security enhancement.

My Humble Appeal

As this matter comes before you, I appeal to your wisdom and commitment to Plateau State. This regional police is a sophisticated threat to our unity, uniqueness, peace, and sovereignty.

I urge you to:
1. Reject this proposal and advocate for state police with full operational control
2. Stand firm protecting Plateau's distinct identity and security needs
3. Forge alliances with Middle Belt governors sharing similar concerns
4. Champion true federalism where states address their unique challenges

Our people elected you to protect Plateau's interests, especially when they conflict with "Northern" agendas that have never served us.

Conclusion

Your Excellency, be wise and courageous. History is watching. Let not our state become a footnote in someone else's design for regional dominance. The security and future of Plateau State must never again be negotiated away for a unity that exists only in rhetoric.

Immediate Closure of Basic Schools in Plateau State:

The Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (PSUBEB) has directed the immediate closure of schools across the state as follows:

Government Junior Model Secondary Schools (GJMSSs) will close effective Saturday, 22 November 2025.
Primary and Day Schools will close effective Monday, 24 November 2025.

This decision is underscoring the urgent need for preventive action.

The Board assures parents, guardians, and stakeholders that this closure is a temporary but necessary step to forestall potential threats and to reassure communities that the government is prioritizing the wellbeing of our learners.

The Board calls on all Local Government Education Authorities, school administrators, and community leaders to cooperate fully with this directive and remain vigilant.
