HAPPENING NOW IN BERLIN, GERMANY:
“I’ve never been in a place that has received so many threats, where the police has been checking on whether I could be arrested or not.”
“This is awful. And as a European, I will never forget this.”
—Francesca Albanese
Oppenheimer lied to you.
He wasn't the hero who saved the Manhattan Project.
When his reactor was failing, he needed a Chinese woman to prevent nuclear disaster––that he later erased from history.
Here's the true story of physics' greatest cover-up:
This is Frank and he has had a coffee stand at the top of the steps at Bethnal Green tube for as long as I can remember.
When the new restaurant/coffee shop next door opened along with another high street outlet opening across the street, Frank suddenly found that his license from the council had been revoked and he was chucked off his stand.
I believe it was to make way for these new shops to take his regular custom. They didn’t need him in the way of gaining maximum profit... so Frank was gone.
Well the locals were having none of it and a petition started demanding his return.
How dare they do this to him.
How dare these people smash his business and leave him with nothing.
After a lot of pressure the council backed down and Frank had his licence and pitch returned to him but sadly by that time Frank had sold his equipment to feed his family and try to survive.
So the good people of Bethnal Green started crowdfunding and here’s the result... Frank back in business on his old pitch with brand new equipment and even a little hut now to shelter him from the rain... Brilliant!!
He is truly the happiest man in East London and it’s wonderful to see.
It really does show that if we all stick together, stand up to them and just say no... the little guy can win.
If you’re in Bethnal Green come and have a coffee with this lovely man. 🧡
America built some of the world's greatest architecture... and then demolished it.
A thread of wonders that were lost (and why)... 🧵
1. Cincinnati Library: replaced by a parking garage
I am the only Palestinian American serving in Congress, and my perspective is needed here now more than ever. I will not be silenced and I will not let anyone distort my words.
I’m from Detroit, where I learned to speak truth to power, even if my voice shakes.
Utrecht University @UniUtrecht in the Netherlands has withdrawn itself from the World University ranking @THEworldunirank provided by @timeshighered. As this has generated quite some reactions - praise, questions, some doubts, I want to provide some context. Hence a thread 🧵1/16
I’m not quite sure how to explain what’s happened tonight, because it’s still happening - but here goes…
At 4:40pm I jumped on a train from London to Edinburgh..
It was comfy, it was quiet
In hindsight, too good to last…
Since there isn't a good, expert explainer about the rice crisis in the press, I asked our hood's kedai uncle to help me understand based on his shop's supply. And then he showed me a local brand rice: Same packaging design, even the same barcode. But the word 'Import' is added.

@DennisIgnatius start by simply recognising the importance of 16.09.1963 as opposed to 31.08.1957. By people, I mean all the people who talk & celebrate 31.08.57 and do not think/celebrate 16.09.63. Also learn to count, Malaysia will be 60... apa ni 66 for a country that does not exist anymore?
