Obasanjo’s campaign of lies, political manipulation and orchestrated deceit falling apart like a pack of cards

Finally, former President Olusegun Obasanjo's campaign of lies, political manipulation and orchestrated deceit stacked against Atiku Abubakar for over 20 years, for political expediency, is falling apart like a pack of cards. On July 23, Chief Obasanjo alleged that his deputy (1999-2007) and Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, mobilised the late former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ghali Umar Na'Abba to impeach him. It has become a pattern for Obasanjo to take advantage of every election cycle to throw stones of corruption, betrayal and other sundry allegations against Atiku. This time, he chose to make a man, who passed away nearly three years ago, the subject of his baseless allegation. He knows that the only way that Na’Abba would be able to respond to the malicious allegation is by a divine miracle in which the former Speaker is raised from the dead!

But Hon. Abubakar Bawa Bwari, a major actor in the politics of that era, put a lie to Obasanjo’s claim. The former Chief Whip during the 1999-2007 sessions of the House of Representatives said that Na’Abba never sought Obasanjo’s removal and insists Atiku acted as his former boss's envoy to lawmakers.

And contrary to the media narrative that Obasanjo knelt down for Atiku to get his support for a second term, former Governor of Abia State, Sen. Orji Kalu in a 2003 trending video revealed that it was actually Atiku who knelt down for the then PDP governors to secure their support for Obasanjo. Obasanjo and his handlers had mischievously dropped into the media space a narrative that the former President was forced to kneel down for Atiku to safeguard his second term ticket. (In Yoruba land, it is a deep cultural taboo and a profound inversion of norms for an elder to kneel down or prostrate for a younger person. This, and many more, were deliberate efforts at portraying Atiku in bad light).

"Atiku knelt down, we were like 17 governors. He knelt down for us and said that he does not want to be disloyal to Obasanjo. That four years is like four days," Kalu said.

And to confirm that it was the PDP governors and not Atiku that were planning to upstage Obasanjo because of his dictatorial tendencies, Kalu said that everything was in motion by the PDP governors to make the Waziri Adamawa president.

"Atiku was almost a President. We had gotten everyone to postpone the (PDP) Convention and had gotten what we needed to move forward. But he (Atiku), said this man (Obasanjo) trusted him, and gave him the opportunity to work with him. That he cannot betray Obasanjo," the former Abia Governor said.

Leading up to the 2007 election, Obasanjo wrote to the Senate to investigate Atiku over alleged diversion of funds of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF). To underscore his innocence, Atiku temporarily vacated his immunity and presented himself for the probe. The former Vice President insisted that the funds were safe in fixed deposit accounts and that the charges were politically motivated to truncate his presidential run because of his opposition to Obasanjo’s Third Term agenda.

Writing in his autobiography titled "Awujale", the late Alaiyeluwa HRH Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona Ogbagba II, the Awujale of Ijebu kingdom exposed how Obasanjo used the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) under Nuhu Ribadu to hound Chairman of Globacom, Dr. Mike Adenuga in his desperation to nail Atiku for diversion of PTDF funds and for his personal benefit.

Dear Bayo @aonanuga1956,

You've just shamelessly confirmed that the @officialEFCC works at the beck and call of President Bola Tinubu. You've just confirmedv that Tinubu is using the EFCC for political end. Tinubu’s claim that he is "embarrassed" by the freezing of the Osun State Government's statutory allocation account by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is hogwash and an after thought.

Indeed, the President only belatedly acted because of the outcry of well-meaning Nigerians, including the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress and former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar.

What Tinubu has shown and clearly too, by the directive to the EFCC to unfreeze the account of Osun State is that the anti-corruption agency is not working at his command.

If the EFCC is truly independent, why has it not invited the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila to answer to the allegations of the PFIPC scandal in which he (Gbajabiamila) was accused of allegedly collecting N400m in bribe from Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who is currently a subject of a sham probe.

If Tinubu is actually engaged in a war against corruption, why is he being selective about it, focusing only on opposition leaders like Nasirel-Rufai and Abubakar Malami? Why has he not encouraged the EFCC to investigate Gbajabiamila? Why did he give him a vote of confidence by appointing him as Chair of the Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill?

Indeed, Nigerians are embarrassed at President Tinubu's hypocrisy, double standards and partisan use of state institutions to weaken the opposition parties. Instead of telling Catholic Bishops of Nigeria how he intends to address the economic hardship and insecurity that is the lived reality of the citizens, Tinubu doubled down on allegations that he is focused on having his way in the 2027 election by saying that "all is far in politics."

Nigerians and friends of Nigeria are embarrassed that Tinubu continues to priotise politics over and above governance.

They're embarrassed that Tinubu has by the outcome of the freezing Osun State Government account exposed that he is not in charge of his government. It is obvious that there are cabals in the Tinubu-led APC administration who are taking actions on his behalf.

Because Form EC9 is an Affidavit, to say NO is lying under oath and that is perjury.

Whitewashing Tinubu’s Drugs Scandal Will Not Erase Records That He Forfeited $460,000 Linked to Heroin Trafficking - Atiku Media Office
*Queries why the President is blocking plans to unravel what's in his FBI, DOJ files

Our attention has been drawn to a reckless and shameful press statement signed on behalf of President Bola Tinubu by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga.

The statement attempts to bury the records of the narcotics trafficking case against Bola Tinubu in the US under an unwieldy and hollow essay.

We are shocked that the Presidency would claim that the narcotics trafficking charges against Tinubu have “long been settled” and rendered moot by an electoral mandate. This argument essentially admits that Tinubu indeed faced investigation on narcotics trafficking, but suggests that his current position as President grants him immunity, thereby wiping the records of his links to the heroin scandal clean.

As the popular Yoruba adage goes: an aged bowl of pounded yam can still steam. We challenge Bayo Onanuga and the Tinubu media team: if the case against their principal is truly time-barred, why are they so panicky about any attempt to revisit it? Why is President Tinubu blocking every move to unravel what is in his FBI/DOJ US files?

The Office of the President is more than a mere political position. It is an office that mirrors the soul of the society it governs. Having an alleged ex-trafficker in that office inflicts serious reputational damage on Nigeria’s image and on every Nigerian on the global stage.

The Presidency’s media team should be reminded that issues of criminal justice are never completely thrown out. They can be revisited at any material time, especially when new circumstances arise.

Between 2023 and 2027, there has been a change of leadership in the United States. It is the duty of law enforcement agencies to determine whether the case can be reopened in the interest of justice.

Revisiting the narcotics case against a sitting president is not an affront to the intelligence of Nigerians. Rather, it is a bold attempt to ensure that the wheel of justice continues to turn.

If President Tinubu has nothing to hide about his records in the US narcotics scandal, he should submit himself to the process of revisiting the case instead of resorting to his usual tactics — frustrating disclosures through frivolous court appeals or deploying his media team to issue long, hollow essays aimed at rewriting history for personal gain.

There's nothing wrong with hiring a lobbyist, especially when you are confronted with a dictatorship. Recall that 6 months ago, Tinubu splurged $9 million of Nigeria's hard-earned money on a US lobby firm. It is concerning that Nigeria's President and the over 200 million citizens of the most populous black nation in the world are carrying a heavy burden: Bola Ahmed Tinubu is documented to have forfeited $460,000 to the US authorities for alleged involvement in heroin trafficking. Nothing else can be more damaging than this. Should we continue to cover it up? No. Do Nigerians deserve to know what is in the FBI and DOJ files about Tinubu? Yes. Nigerians are entitled to know everything about their President or a prospective President. If Tinubu and later day allies like you have nothing to hide, then you will not be preoccupied with blocking every move to unravel the #TinubuUSFiles. After all, a clear conscience fears no accusation.

By the way, you and I have some unfinished business dating back to the days of your Chairmanship of the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on Mounting Humanitarian Crisis in the North-East, which investigated, indicted, and recommended the prosecution of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal. There are leaders we follow, and then there are leaders we trust with our future.

Atiku Abubakar is the latter.

He is educated, not to boast, but to serve. Humble, not because he lacks strength, but because true power does not need to shout. Experienced, not in theory, but in the realities Nigeria faces daily.

He is accessible to the farmer in the village and the student in the city. Transparent in his dealings. He talks less and does more. Trustworthy when promises have become cheap.

2027: BALANCING THE IMBALANCE

The assumption in many quarters that the 2027 Presidential Election would be a stroll in the park for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), is wishful thinking and likened to counting one's chicks before they are hatched".

This is because unlike the 2023 elections when the APC presumably won the presidential election, Nigerians are wiser this time around and are prepared to take the "Bull by the Horn", right the wrongs and liberate the country from doom.

At a time when other countries are evolving time-tested, standardized strategies to put their countries on sound economic footing, the same cannot be said of Nigeria where the government appears bereft of ideas and is yet to get its bearing with inflation hitting the rooftop at 34%, the highest in the history of the country since independence.

Instead, the APC is strategizing on how to retain power at all cost relying heavily on vote buying, rigging, ballot box snatching and stuffing but most especially manipulation of results with the aid of compromised election umpires who often go unpunished. There might also be an attempt to woo some parts of the country by releasing some people in detention and those under unending trials.

Other evil strategies they have adopted include, but are not limited to, insecurity and hunger. These have proved effective as farmers who produce the bulk of agricultural produce that we rely on cannot go to their farms because of high level insecurity mostly in the northern states resulting in hunger which has traumatized the population.

Aware that they have held the citizens by the scrotum, with no reprieve from anywhere, the government resorts to issuing handouts by way of bags of rice, sugar, beans, and millet to give the impression of a government that cares. Of course, this is confirmation of the maxim that "it is he who holds the palm leaf that the goat will follow". The people are very hungry and most likely will forget his four years of bad governance and misery.

From every standpoint, the president has been ill-advised. The notion that the North is inconsequential is counterproductive, and the administration is inadvertently digging its own grave. The government fails to understand that there is an extent to which the people can be taken for a ride. They also fail to understand that as it failed in Lagos, the hunger strategy can and will fail again. It failed in Lagos because the majority of the Igbos based in Lagos are self-reliant, independent, and not dependent on government handouts. But the question is: can our Northern brethren resist the temptation of dependency and hunger, because for you to resist or reject, you must have an alternative, be decisive, courageous and determined enough to resist this deadly strategy responsible for poor governance in Nigeria.

The North must be united to rout the current government out of office, and gladly, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has the pedigree, experience, and connections to saddle the affairs of this country back to safety.

Our country has continued to suffer because of the role our leaders played with dollars they allegedly received from Jagaban and APC. But come 2027, those leaders must be identified as working against the interest of the Northern region and blacklisted for bringing the suffering, hunger, and starvation currently facing this country.

The South West is thinking of presenting a candidate in PDP to challenge Tinubu. But let me state categorically that Atiku is not against anyone contesting. 2027 is not about whether or not you like Atiku, or he ran for 20 times. It is about the survival and sustenance of the people of the region.

Thankfully, the North has woken up from slumber and prepared to take the gauntlet. In the words of a former Nigerian president, "All this while, Atiku Abubakar has been contesting, but this time, 2027, we are sending him as our consensus candidate.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Please permit me to introduce to you a special breed — a remarkable individual in this video.
We are privileged to watch the video of a healthy, stable, and happy man who has never given up in life, no matter the challenges before him.

He lost his father at the tender age of nine — but he didn’t give up.
He continued the struggles of life, walking to the stream, fetching water, and even helping to feed the white men stationed in the then Gongola State.

From the age of nine to twelve, he worked, laboured, and dreamed — but he didn’t give up.
He pressed on and rose through the ranks to become a Senior Customs Officer.
Even then, when he was supposed to be appointed Comptroller General of Customs, he was unjustly denied — but he didn’t give up.

He continued the fight for justice, standing firm with his friend and mentor, Malam Musa Rumusaya Aduba, to enthrone democracy in Nigeria.
Even when his life was threatened — even when there were attempts to assassinate him — he didn’t give up.

When democracy finally returned to Nigeria, he was among those who paid the highest price.
He bore the burden, the cost — even paying the bills of those imprisoned in the struggle, including a future president. Yet again, he didn’t give up.

He was blackmailed out of Nigeria’s political system — but he didn’t give up.
They united against him, built numerous platforms to keep him out — still, he didn’t give up.

After four unsuccessful attempts to become Governor of Adamawa State, he was deprived by the military regime of General Abacha and others — but he didn’t give up.
On his fifth attempt, he won — but destiny had higher plans. He was called to serve as the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1999.

As Vice President, he led the Nigerian Economic Team, guiding the nation toward debt relief and debt cancellation by the Paris Club.
He was blackmailed by those in power simply because he stood against tyranny and opposed the infamous third-term agenda.
He fought for democracy — and for that, he paid the price.

To this day, he remains the face of Nigeria’s democratic struggle.

In 2019, he fought again — denied victory by the powers of incumbency.
In 2023, he won clearly — but was again denied, simply because of his tribe.

And so today, as a result of careful study and reflection, we have realized the major reason behind these repeated injustices:
He lacked an independent structure solely dedicated to defending his votes.

That is why today, we are proud to announce YOU that deserve a better Nigeria, Igbo, Hausa, Ijaw, Yoruba, Fulani as defenders of his votes — a vision born from the loyalty and determination of his true followers.
A team of patriotic Nigerians, led by dedicated colleagues, who have worked tirelessly for over three years to ensure that no vote for His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar, will ever again be stolen or silenced.
