Exactly. That’s the part the movies completely flatten.

Ginny doesn’t suddenly become Harry’s love interest. She grows into someone Harry eventually notices. Early on, she’s shy and awkward around him because he’s Harry Potter. By Half-Blood Prince, she’s confident, funny, competitive, popular, and completely comfortable challenging him.

And Harry’s attraction develops alongside that change. He starts noticing things he simply hadn’t noticed before,the way she jokes, her confidence, her talent, the fact that she has a life completely separate from him.

That’s why the book romance works better: Ginny doesn’t spend years waiting for Harry to choose her. Harry eventually realizes the girl he’s been overlooking has become exactly the kind of person he wants beside him.

The movies removed most of Ginny’s personality, then expected us to believe Harry suddenly fell for her. 😭

Fleur is shown from the start as being vain & condescending. Besides, Harry in GoF is angry at her calling him a little boy. Ginny in HBP isn't much older than he was & justifiably hates that Fleur treats her like she's 3 years old, especially given her independent personality.

@canelaslow I get your point but fleur was perfectly nice to them. They just didnt like that she was more feminine then them. And hermione didnt like her extra becoz ron asked her out. Come on they weren’t being very supportive girls

@NunoNeves2504 @hjpgmw She doesn't need to. The "Ginny's first year" is directly preceding the comparison. It's specifying the timeframe. Random example: "Emma went through a lot in her first year at uni, I dare say, more than Jack." That doesn't mean that Emma had a worse life overall than Jack.

@NunoNeves2504 @hjpgmw I'm not sure about Sirius as I don't spend time in the Marauders fandom, but comparisons between book/movie Hermione absolutely do happen to a similar scale as with Ginny. People *always* talk about how perfect Hermione is in the movies and how nuanced and flawed she is in books.

So why not comment the same thing on constant memes of Dumbledore "did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire"; of Ron saying "he's got a point", or Hermione stealing standing up to Sirius, instead of only doing it to Ginny fans?

Book fans have always talked about movie portrayals of Ron, Hermione, Snape, Dumbledore etc. & how they are so much better in the books. Why is it only a problem for you when Ginny fans talk about her character?
