Congratulations to @SamarSemaanMD@HMSurgery for getting her study "Comparative Long-Term Outcomes of Heller Myotomy and Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy" accepted for publication in @SurgEndosc !
Excellent Grand Rounds by our chief resident, Dr. Zia, on “Shaping the Future of Surgery—inspiring the next generation through surgical education”.
Representation. Opportunity. Dedication.
That’s how we build the future of surgery.

Our local faculty did an outstanding job at our inaugural Houston Methodist Hospital Department of Surgery Minimally Invasive Surgery Symposium.
Dr.’s Caroline Simon, Lee Morris, Gabe Arevalo, and Ray Chihara led interactive discussions focused on improving lives through laparoscopic and robotic techniques!

Our thoracic surgery division, under @DrMinPKim’s leadership, has set new benchmarks for outcomes and innovation thanks to a data-driven culture, robotic adoption & enhanced recovery pathways. https://t.co/VUhGhsglss
Dr. @scopdoc completed the first minimally invasive surgery using 4K 3D spatial computing with a head-mounted virtual monitor in June 2025. He explains how it improves surgeon vision, ergonomics, and integrates imaging and patient data in real time.

Tonight's Surgical Skills Round-Up was nothing but a "stitch"! Residents got to show off their skills and compete for a monetary grand prize. The winners of the Round-Up were @HMSurgery! @AmCollSurgeons
What is a two-peat?
Resident teams competed in Jeopardy to test their surgical knowledge. Although the competition was tough, the reigning champs, @HMSurgery, took home the win! @AmCollSurgeons
Congratulations to all of our winners! Thank you to everyone who presented and participated at STCAM events over the last three days. Incredible work by everyone! @AmCollSurgeons
I was thankful to be invited to present our ongoing work at the 2026 annual SAGES NBT Innovation Weekend at the Woodlands in Texas. During the “My Favorite Digital Tool to Improve My Performance” session, I presented our work on Spatial Computing in the OR to improve visual acuity and ergonomics in monitor-based operations and procedures. In the poll of the audience following all presentations, we received the highest number of votes for “the technology presented which I would like to have now”!
We are using the @Apple Vision Pro and our @KARLSTORZ system to provide surgeons with 4K 3D virtual monitors that always allow 4K 3D viewing and placement of that monitor in the best ergonomic position. Our system allows for a primary laparoscopy and multiple secondary monitors. Intra-operative endoscopy, vital signs, intra-operative cholangiograms, laparoscopic common bile duct exploration, and intra-operative EndoFlip measurements have all been utilized on second and third virtual monitors. There are many additional advantages to this system and we believe that this is the future of digital visualization for monitor-based operations and procedures.
The reigning national champs are seeking to reclaim their title! Catch @RBrumer and @ethyngl at Surgery Jeopardy finals tomorrow night 🤓@STXACS@AmCollSurgeons
Happy to see that two of my residents, @JuliaSchroerMed and @priyalarun got to meet with a fantastic role model, Sallie Matthews, at the annual Women In Surgery Career Symposium in Tampa. Sallie is just one of many leaders in their field who shared the stories of their journeys to success. I hope that Priya Arunachalam and Julia Schroer absorbed that shared knowledge and made connections that will serve them and last throughout their careers. Creating tomorrow’s leaders today.
