Expelling Afghan students who are already enrolled in Pakistani universities, especially medical colleges, is disgraceful.

A civilized system does not uproot students halfway through their education because of politics. If any individual student has broken the law, present the evidence and take action against that individual. But collectively punishing thousands of students who came legally to study is neither justice nor common sense.

And think about the Afghan female students. The Taliban does not allow women to pursue university education in Afghanistan. What exactly are these young women supposed to do when they are sent back without completing degrees they have already spent years working toward?

Pakistan could stop or restrict new admissions if it chooses. But students already enrolled, particularly those in their fourth or final year of medical school, should be allowed to finish what they started.

What is equally disturbing is watching people on social media celebrate this decision. The same people should remember this moment the next time a Pakistani student, doctor, worker, or immigrant is treated unfairly abroad.

You cannot demand dignity for Pakistanis overseas while cheering collective punishment of foreigners at home.

That hypocrisy is stark, and impossible to ignore.

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council's decision requiring Afghan medical students in Pakistan to return to Afghanistan is patently discriminatory and arbitrary in nature. The consequences of this decision are especially severe for female students, many of whom have already been denied access to higher education in Afghanistan amid Taliban’s ongoing gender persecution and now face the prospect of losing one of the few remaining pathways to pursue their education and profession. Many of these students will have devoted years studying medicine, only to see their education brought to an abrupt and unjustifiable end, with little prospect of being able to resume their studies elsewhere.

Pakistan has obligations under international human rights law to uphold the right to education without discrimination on the basis of national origin. Amnesty International urges the authorities to adopt a humane and practical solution that allows Afghan students, including women and girls, to complete their education.

Nobody knows how much they've struggled here. My afghani classmate had such a language barrier and had to study 10 times harder to pass the same exam and now what :( Was it really all for nothing? Really breaks my heart. Are we really that powerless?

I don’t get how an Afghan student who got into one of the most prestigious medical universities in Pakistan like kemu on a scholarship suddenly became a security threat to the state. Let students complete the degrees they worked so hard for. Don’t waste their potential.

This decision is deeply troubling and deserves urgent reconsideration.

Even amid war and geopolitical tensions, thousands of Iranian students continue to study at American universities. So why should Afghan medical students already enrolled in Pakistan be denied the opportunity to finish their MBBS?

There can be a legitimate debate about restricting or pausing NEW admissions from Afghanistan, just as countries sometimes impose visa restrictions. But students who were admitted legally, have spent years studying, and are already in their 4th or final year should not have their entire careers jeopardized by circumstances beyond their control.

Students should not become casualties of politics.

I respectfully urge the Government of Pakistan and the relevant authorities to reconsider this decision and allow currently enrolled Afghan medical students to complete their degrees.

Just so everyone knows, despite an ongoing war and enormous geopolitical tensions, thousands of Iranian students continue to study in the United States.

So expelling Afghan MBBS students from Pakistan, especially those in 4th and final year who are just months away from completing their degrees, is deeply troubling.

Stop new admissions if policy demands it. But destroying the careers of students who have already invested years of their lives?

PMDC just issued a notification that all Afghan students currently enrolled any medical/dental college are required to return back to their country with immediate effect. Harmless students who took the legal route.

Who pursued "strategic depth" in Afghanistan?
