Throwback! Looking back in time, Farmaajo was a clever leader. During his time in office, the UAE attempted to stir up conflict between Somali leaders. The UAE ambassador approached former Mayor Thabit Abdi Mohamed and suggested that he speak to Farmaajo about the Mayor's office taking over security in Mogadishu. The UAE also offered to train 7,000 mercenaries to maintain security in the capital. When Prime Minister Khayre found out about this, he put pressure on Thabit, causing the Mayor to declare Banadir as a state for couplen of hours before being fired from office.
