In 2023, The Armory Show was acquired by Frieze, one of the world’s leading organizations for modern and contemporary art.
Through energetic brushwork and palette knife textures, Li Jie’s works portray faceless human figures in moments of togetherness, their forms shifting between abstraction and figuration depending on the viewer’s perspective. Suspended in a dreamlike space, these figures highlight the tension between materiality and ephemerality, individuality and collectivity, and reality and imagination.

HOFA highlights: Zhuang Hong Yi

Born in Sichuan in 1962, Zhuang studied at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute before moving to the Netherlands in 1992 and continuing his education at the Minerva Art Academy. His practice has developed between China and Europe, bringing traditional Chinese materials and philosophies into dialogue with the colour and formal experimentation of Western abstraction.
At the centre of his work is the flower: a symbol of prosperity, renewal, beauty and impermanence across cultures. Yet Zhuang rarely depicts a botanical specimen. Each folded flower becomes a unit within a larger field. Repetition becomes rhythm; rhythm becomes landscape.
Composed from thousands of hand-folded and painted pieces of rice paper, the works shift in colour, depth and atmosphere as the viewer moves around them. They are paintings that behave like sculptures, and sculptures activated by light.
The fold is Zhuang’s organising principle: a modest gesture through which paper becomes volume, colour becomes movement and the image becomes an event. Fragile material takes on an architectural presence. A flower becomes a field. A surface appears to breathe.

'The Glitched Sublime', Maja Petrić

Presented during SXSW London 2026, Specimens of Time: The Glitched Sublime enters into conversation with the festival's focus on artificial intelligence, automation, and the future of human experience. In contrast to much of today's generative AI culture, the exhibition proposes a different trajectory for technology, one centred on ecological memory, embodied experience, and reconnection with the living world.

Alongside the exhibition, Petrić will present Art, Tech & Nature: The Glitched Sublime at SXSW London on Wednesday, 3 June, from 11:40 to 12:10 at Protein Studios (Stage 2). She will also appear on the panel Worldbuilding for the Senses: When Art Meets Experience Meets Brand on Thursday, 4 June, from 16:10 to 16:50 at Truman Brewery (Truman Stage 1).
