HPCL categorically rejects the misleading videos and demonstrations circulating on social media that falsely claim that ethanol-blended petrol separates into distinct layers under normal conditions. Such demonstrations are unscientific and misleading and do not reflect the quality, behavior, or performance of fuel supplied through HPCL's retail network.

Petrol supplied under India's Ethanol Blending Program is manufactured strictly in accordance with notified BIS quality specifications. The blending process is carried out using fully automated, controlled systems, and every batch undergoes stringent quality checks before being supplied to consumers.

The phenomenon depicted in these videos is phase separation, which occurs only when excessive amounts of water contaminate the fuel. Such conditions are not encountered during normal vehicle operation or in approved fuel storage and handling systems. Demonstrations conducted using open containers, under uncontrolled conditions, or with contaminated samples are scientifically invalid and cannot be used to draw conclusions about the quality or performance of ethanol-blended petrol.

The introduction of E20 petrol in India followed years of extensive testing and validation by automobile manufacturers, research institutions, Oil Marketing Companies, and regulatory authorities. Since its rollout, there has been no scientific evidence or widespread field data establishing that ethanol blending causes engine failures or fuel system damage under normal operating conditions.

India's Ethanol Blending Program is a key national initiative aimed at enhancing energy security, reducing crude oil imports, lowering emissions, and supporting farmers through increased ethanol production. HPCL has made significant investments in infrastructure, quality assurance systems, and technical validation to ensure that consumers receive fuel that is safe, reliable, and fully compliant with prescribed standards.
