I stopped for a chat with Don today who was putting up Christmas lights for the last time at La Mimosa. He told me that after 21 years, the restaurant will be closing at the end of the year and that he will be retiring.
The name Don Pasquale has been synonymous with Italian dining in Cambridge for over 50 years. He and his brothers, Kim and Prospero opened their well-loved restaurant at Market Hill in 1972 - a traditional Italian restaurant that became a Cambridge institution under the Benedetto family.‘ It’s been my life’ he said ‘Nearly all my customers are regulars who have been coming for years - they have made my time here so enjoyable - I will miss it terribly’.
And I will miss our daily chats Don as I’m reminded that it is people who make a city, and family-run businesses are a key element to our sense of belonging. The American political scientist, in his book ‘Bowling Alone’ calls it social capital, and I think we are running out of it.

🆕 The Highworth Avenue/Elizabeth Way roundabout landscaping is nearly complete, and the community marked the project’s progress with the planting of a tree on the roundabout. This will be just one of almost 200 trees planted in total on Milton Road. More: https://t.co/ppRU5AjW8B
Would you like to help shape the future design of Arbury, King's Hedges and West Chesterton?
We're creating a 'design code' for parts of North Cambridge to help guide improvements in the coming years. Take a look at our online survey and get involved! https://t.co/yjuL3oot3G
@GreaterCambs @Milestone_Infra @CambsCC OK - but do you have sight of @Milestone_Infra's plan for this? Your project manager needs to be satisfied and pro-active to ensure what happened on Histon Road (several trees died) will not happen on Milton Rd. Replacing dead trees months later was so wasteful.
Do you think #LocalGovernment in England is functioning well? No? Then please sign my petition to Parliament to accept the recommendation of @CommonsPACAC to set up a cross-party Commission on the future governance of England. PRT

@mabhurley @glenysmw@Sam_in_Cam@GreaterCambs@camcitco Trees planted by @GreaterCambs for Milton Rd redevelopment. Responsibility for maintenance/watering probably lies with the landscaping contractor for initial warranty period. Thereafter it passes to City or County.
Can @GreaterCambs confirm survival plan for the new trees please?
GOOD to see new TREES being planted on Milton Road. What is the watering plan @GreaterCambs? Will you engage with the local hotel, businesses and residents to assist in the coming summer months? Will they survive?
