Do you see what I see? The @HPESpeech team is putting together a new program to help students use language for a variety of purposes, such as commenting on what they can see! This program uses pictures and real life objects to encourage language development. #Language#AAC
A common misconception in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is that it will stop someone from learning to speak. Research shows that AAC can have positive effects on speech and language development. It does not stop an AAC user from learning to speak.

The speech and language team is onto a second round of schools for the "Grade 2 Oral Narrative Program". Here students are taking turns re-telling a story to each other and giving feedback on the parts of the story they included! @HPEschools

We have had a wonderful start to the year sharing our oral narrative program with many primary classrooms in @HPEschools. Our WHY? Story-telling promotes brain development, imagination, language and emotion. Being a good story-telling can also strengthen social relationships.
