Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen accompanied by the NIS Director General Nordin Haji presided over the 11th Special Operations Group (SOG) graduation ceremony at Kamanga Special Operations Training Camp in Samburu County.

After months of intense training, at least 122 Special Operations Group officers graduated from the training. The SOG is a special unit of officers primarily drawn from the Border Police Unit (BPU) of the Administration Police Service, and their operations are funded by the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

The SOG core task is to aid in the war against terror by securing Kenyan borders and volatile regions as well as solving any emerging security threat within the republic.

In recent years the SOG, with the full backing of the NIS, has emerged as one of Kenya's key security components in the war against terror. SOG is placed at the frontline and carries the heavyweight of fighting the enemy alongside KDF special units.
