Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) system includes bus, ferry & light rail service. We service 6 of the largest 10 cities in the commonwealth. Track our policy push.
I stood with leaders across the region to sign the merger that created Hampton Roads Transit in 1999 but now, 21 years later; I am here with Governor Northam as he signs this landmark legislation that will ensure we have a bus network system that plans and operates regionally.
"Workers classified as essential during the #COVID19 emergency account for 36% of total transit commuters in the U.S. Service must be maintained to allow for safe spacing on buses and trains." @transitcenter

Today we got Congressman @Scotttaylorva on our busiest bus, the route 20. He had a few moments to speak with many riders who were utilizing @gohrt_com services to get to work. The complexities of local funding to provide a reliable service were one of the many topics with staff.
We were happy to tour Delegate @jonesjay today throughout the 89th House District. We boarded the Route 3 from DNTC and made our way to Chesapeake Blvd and Norview Ave.Del.Jones has always been a supporter of better transportation options serving on House Transportation Committee.
Many thanks to representatives from @BobbyScott, @VirginiaDRPT Director Jennifer Mitchell and @cityofhampton Council members: Mayor Donnie Tuck; Vice Mayor Jimmy Gray; Chris Snead and Steven Brown who attended our New Bus Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.
“I don’t care how long it takes me to get there. As long as I’m productive on the commute.” @DelGlennDavis (84th House District) talking about the importance of Wi-Fi access and other amenities while using multimodal options of transportation.
We enjoyed touring him on Route 33
The success of public transportation can be traced back to one of the late President Lyndon Johnson’s greatest accomplishments which continues benefiting many Americans today. On July 9, 1964 he signed the “Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964” into law.
President & CEO, William Harrell pictured with Councilwoman Angelia Williams Graves, at the St. Paul’s Advisory Committee Meeting. HRT will play an instrumental role in ensuring the robust public transportation needs are met for the upcoming developments.
Today, we continued our Legislative Bus Tour with @DelegateFowler on Route 12. We rode in her district that has around half a million citizens boarding per year on our bus system. She also supports the efforts behind a true regional bus network #Core20
Today we began our Legislative Bus Tour Campaign with Delegate @CliffHayesJr who serves on House Appropirations. We discussed various topics including the need for dedicated funding to create a true regional bus network.
Many Hampton Roads Delegates have introduced bills to put a floor in place to our motor fuel gas tax in our region. This will help with planning regional transportation options such as roads, bridges and tunnels.
Do you know there is a statewide floor to motor fuel gas tax that does not include hampton roads? Our region has lost millions of dollars annually due to not having a floor in place to protect funding for the region.
Former Gov. Terry McAuliffe proposed $110 million in his budget to address this looming CPR Bond cliff. We will continue to advocate for full funding at $130 million annually.
Capital Project Revenue Bonds have accounted for $130 million annually in transportation funding throughout the Commonwealth. Now with those bonds expiring, we currently need to find additional funding to protect current State of Good Repair efforts.
We will be advocating for topics that include: Operator Assault. Did you know that HRT has had over 90 Operators Assaulted in the last 5 years? This year, House Bill 931 will make assaulting an operator a Class 6 Felony.
