The right decision. 👏🏾
But let’s not forget that this would not have happened if @Dhaurunews didn’t break the news.
So I believe it is equally important to investigate what happened and publish the findings transparently. We need to understand how this was allowed to happen in the first place.
That is the only way to ensure it does not happen again.
My dear friend, you already brought a “staggering 8.8 billion” financial free zone to the Maldives in 2025.
Only one tiny problem, the 8.8 billion never actually made it to the Maldives.
Now it’s 20 billion.
At this rate, we will be trillionaires by 2028 but with a daily USD limit of 3 USD
A year before the 2023 presidential election, MDP held its 4th Congress in 2022 with a then-record 1,178 delegates. It was a massive event. At the time, PPM/PNC could not put together anything comparable.
But MDP lost the 2023 election.
Since losing power, MDP has not managed to hold a congress on that same scale, either in attendance or apparent spending power.
Now the tables have turned.
Yesterday, the ruling PNC opened what it describes as its most comprehensive congress yet, with more than 1,300 delegates, surpassing MDP’s 2022 figure and MDP cannot put together anything close.
Two things are worth thinking about:
1. Why do Maldivian political parties suddenly become capable of holding enormous, expensive-looking congresses only when they are in government? We saw it with MDP when it held power. Now we are seeing it with PNC.
The obvious question is how much of this extraordinary organisational and spending capacity comes from the party itself, and how much is enabled by access to the machinery, influence and resources that come with holding state power.
2. A grand congress is not evidence of electoral support. MDP demonstrated that perfectly. It could gather 1,178 delegates and stage a huge congress in 2022, yet it still lost the presidential election the following year. We have also seen PNC stage enormous political events while in government, including the ones before council elections which they lost.
Perhaps the more important question is not which party can put on the grandest show, but why both political parties seem to acquire their greatest organisational and financial muscle only after gaining control of the state and why, as a county, we seems to be ok with it.
See I told you “…… If not then the Government isn’t really trying to eliminate the USD black market. It just wants its partner, BML, to be the only one allowed to operate at black-market…”
Sharing a request I received via DM.
Maldivians travelling abroad for medical treatment used to receive USD 2,000. Now Aasandha has reduced this to USD 500.
The consequences:
1. BML provides no more than USD 500.
2. Patients cannot legally buy the remaining USD from the parallel market.
So a very simple but extremely important question remains:
What exactly is a patient, or their family, supposed to do?
Using laws and enforcement to prevent people from selling USD above the pegged rate does not make the demand for USD disappear. Nor does it make the market rate disappear. You cannot fight economic and market realities with laws and force alone.
Yes, the government needs to reduce unnecessary USD expenditure. But that should not begin by cutting USD allocations for sick Maldivians travelling abroad for treatment that is unavailable in the Maldives.
Even before the government required resorts to exchange 20% of their USD, patients were able to receive USD 2,000. Now, even after increasing the requirement to 40%, are we saying the government cannot provide that same USD 2,000 to a patient travelling for medical treatment?
Meanwhile, has the government closed a single unnecessary embassy? Recalled a single unnecessary ambassador? Significantly reduced official overseas travel? Cut unnecessary SOE expenditure in USD?
USD continues to be spent on RasMale and other projects that are far less urgent than someone travelling abroad for essential medical treatment.
These are the areas where USD expenditure should be cut before restricting access for patients and students.
Taking 40% of tourism-sector USD will mean very little to the general public if that USD is not ultimately used for their benefit.
Otherwise, Maldives risks losing on two fronts, we damage the tourism industry and investor confidence through increasingly heavy USD requirements, while ordinary Maldivians still struggle to access USD for necessities such as healthcare and education. It’s a double loss for citizens.
If the justification for taking more USD from the tourism industry is that the country needs it for essential public needs, then patients travelling for essential medical treatment should surely be among the first in line, not the first to face cuts.

The owners of these two vehicles (the two bikes so far confirmed to be involved in the reckless behaviour that night) should not be allowed to reclaim it.
They’re using these vehicles as weapons on a public road.
Pass a law if necessary.
Arrest this arsehole Ibrahim Saman. Confiscate his bike. Don’t release it. Apply the criminal law and destroy the bike. He’s a danger, his bike is a danger to husbands, wives and children who travel between Male - Hulhumale’. Too many innocent lives have been lost. We don’t want innocent people dying cause of lunatics like this.
Update
This police officer is celebrating their stunts.
The 3rd one.
Rishvan Khalid (Gdh. Gadhdhu)
Police Service No: 7236 (Male Custodial Security and Response)
Arrest him and his gang.
He’s also the selfie category.
This happened to a family on 7 July 2026 but the people who did this, the reckless drivers are out there roaming around, dining at restaurants, coffeeing with mates. When this happens to your loved one, your baby girl or boy, wife or husband, mother or father, it will tear your whole world apart and leave you broken, raging and wondering how the fuck those same drivers get to keep living their normal lives while yours is gone forever.
Update #NameandShame
Who are this guy’s parents, his siblings? Who raised him? This is Ahulaam, one doing the stunt, seen in the video.
Plate no. AA0U-P1483
This guy is so proud of it he bragged about it on all of his socials, it’s still there (others removed it).
Update
This guy Adam Idhaam (HDC staff) was also riding that night.
Plate no. AA0S-P8064
Orange and black Exciter 155.
He’s hiding his face on Instagram so I got something better.
Thiburoazuge / V. Keyodhu
They’re no different from gang murderers. They kill people and these guys also kill people by driving recklessly. So the public need to know who these people are.
Update
Aulaam had an accident just last month, he fled the scene and changed the bike’s cover to avoid detection. I encourage the victim to go to police if this is the guy who hit you.
He’s from Ga. Dhaandhu (Current: Rabarugas 9, lot 11392). His mother is Thashreefa Waheed.
Aishath Leesh and Aishath Nira are his siblings.
This family raised a bad child.
There’s no difference between him and a murderer. Murderers use weapons to attack and kill people. He’s using his bike as a murder weapon and reckless behaviour to do the same thing.
These 4 low quality individuals, who look very short and skinny and unable to ride a super sport bike and can only ride a scooter/underbone motorbike, are putting hundreds of lives at risk and should be jailed for endangering others’ lives. It’s criminal.
Lucas defending @malshasharyf and her unfair salary.
You know what Lucas? I will keep talking about it cause I know how so many kids are struggling. Getting a monthly stipend might not be a huge deal for you.
Malsha is your friend and you have no choice, but to defend her. So keep defending @malshasharyf and her big fat salary.
I've also talked a lot about real corruption. Your tweet says a lot about your integrity and who you want to defend. We can go into details if you want.
