Elementary teachers should be reading as many informational texts as fiction. Text sets make learning exciting! My first graders were determined to research answers outside of school that we did not find in our texts. First graders are researchers too! ❤️
This morning this adorable student of mine used her mom’s phone to text me to ask me to dress like her. Who could say no? Twinning with an amazing child (who got fake glasses to improve the look) made my day! Just another reason being an educator is so rewarding!
Today is World Down Syndrome Day. I don’t have a student this year that has Down Syndrome so it is extra important to talk about this important topic. ❤️ This is a great book to share with elementary students.
Tomorrow my school does our silent walk through the gym full of luminaries with quotes of Dr. King or wishes for the future. Then the luminaries will be brought outside so families can be a part of our tribute to an amazing man.
When your student shares about himself/herself it brings such a connection and excitement to the classroom. I sure love teaching first grade. Happy Diwali! ❤️💙💚
@MichelleObama Such a great story. Thanks for sharing it! I’m a mom of four and a first grade teacher. I have on order your Little People Big Dreams book and can not wait to share it. You are a hero!
Check out Brynn’s review of the High School Musical Jr. opening show last night! They still have two more showings at 3 pm and 8 pm tonight at the Fine Arts Center or you can live stream the show! Be sure to check it out!

My first graders just completed the Space Systems science unit. Even in a pandemic they get to enjoy a field trip (virtually)! They will be so surprised to find this admissions ticket, because Room 10 is going to be transformed into a planetarium!
Teachers need classroom libraries filled with culturally inclusive texts! Every child should have many books at his/her fingertips with characters who look like them or look like their friends. I am excited to get these texts in my students’ hands!
