I wrote a piece on the need for greater authenticity within academic psychiatry for @medpagetoday. Many of us represent the people we treat. But why is it still "us" versus "them"?

@drjessigold@cdpearson Great point. This is the room we live in now- so how do we deal with it proactively. Also, I feel like academic medicine/public health also forgets that other age groups may be experiencing unhealthy outcomes from social media use. Everyone is impacted.

We need to remember that this isn't just something that happens in certain parts of the U.S. This is an American tradition. Injustice somewhere is injustice everywhere. We're not free until everyone is free #BLM#RalphYarl

Such a great summary on social media and the teen brain. We live in a time where we are all bombarded with lots of information. The good news- there are many ways to monitor and control what we consume and adults can model/teach teens healthier ways to interact with media/tech.
Thank you @NPR@NPRCoryTurner for helping people understand the science on social media and youth mental health, with a terrific summary of findings from @EvaTelzer, @TAYA_Lab @JacquelineNesi, tons of peer relations researchers' work, social neurosci, social psych and more!

@thewrittenro All very true. But I do find that, over time, the good ones in academia do love you back/cultivate a supportive community, which is lovely. But it is tough to endure the other BS in the meantime.
@SFreedenthal I don't have this stat in a citation. Honestly, I had been told that peer review/ other scholars were not interested in these stats. BUT you have inspired me to start to write more of these findings up, even if they are just descriptive. Will keep you posted...
