Orthodox Christian anthropology of sex and family (closely related to cosmology, soteriology, and apologetic and moral theology) has long been a concern for me as an Orthodox teacher and scholar in the liberal arts at a secular university. So I rejoice to find that Holy Trinity Seminary Press has published the English translation of this very helpful book by Dr Jean-Claude Larchet. It provides a great reinforcement for those of us in the trenches of resisting false “queer ideology” in American education. It follows an earlier related publication of the Press that I had co-edited (with Prof. David Ford and Priest Prof. Alexander Webster), Healing Humanity: Confronting Our Moral Crisis (2020), based on a conference at the seminary.
“Do you see that this is not the end of the procession? Only the Lord who is going up to His death can go this way. But it is not only necessary to go with Him but also to be crucified with Him. But how can you do that? When you embark on the path of true Christian life and begin to fulfill the commandments of Christ in action, then you will constantly crucify yourself for the sake of the Lord, or be crucified with Christ the Saviour unto salvation... In the sufferings of the Lord and in our compassion for Him we are encouraged to live a virtuous Christian life; in our physical and spiritual ascetic labors we receive help for it; and in Confession and Communion we begin it and receive strength. All that remains now, having accomplished everything, is to begin to live truly as a Christian. And how and why this life is a co-crucifixion with the Lord, you will understand at once. You will feel for yourself how, when performing Christian virtues, sometimes our hands and feet are nailed, sometimes our heart is struck, sometimes our head is crowned with thorns, sometimes our whole natural body is covered with wounds. I will not explain how it is. You yourself know or will know. And I will conclude my word with a sincere wish for you. May the Lord bless you not only to march with Him but also to be crucified with Him, for there is no other way to salvation! Amen.”

Lives of the Saints of Rus' to be published in English for the first time

Holy Trinity Publications has announced the release of a two-volume translation of the Lives of the Saints of Rus’: A Legacy of Holiness, marking the first time the work has been...
“Offering the Cross of the Lord for our veneration, (the Church) thereby says to each of us: ‘Gaze upon the Lord, hanging on the Cross. You see that, having ascended the Cross, He never left it until He surrendered His spirit to God the Father. So you also, having entered into the ascetic labor of struggling with the passions in view of pleasing the Lord, have begun to feel as if you are nailed to the cross. Such is how it is. But watch that you abide on this cross in peace, do not fret and do not thrash about, and especially cut off every thought of descending until the moment comes to say, ‘Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit (Luke 23:46).’ The meaning of these words is this: do not weaken your resolve; do not indulge yourself; do not change the ascetic struggles you have begun; walk firmly on the sorrowful path of self-sacrifice. It will lead you to a blessed repose in the bosom of the Heavenly Father.”

First published in France in 1977, a 2nd edition was published in Jordanville in 1983 to include the lives of many New Martyrs of Russia. Now, we are offering these volumes in English to honor these saints whose legacy spreads far beyond the lands in which they labored.
