On November 11, 2024, 6 Meetei civilians all Women and infants were reportedly kidnapped and held hostage by Kuki militants from a remote village in Jiribam. The recent CRPF operation, which led to the deaths of 11 Kuki militants, is believed to be in retaliation for these attacks and kidnappings. This information was allegedly shared in a WhatsApp group linked to Kuki militants. Innocent village volunteers remain held captive, yet the Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights who recently petitioned the President and NHRC over the death of a woman they referred to as a “fallen hero in defense of our ancestral land” on November 7, 2024 has not condemned this act of terrorism.

Some leaders of Kuki groups, despite claiming victimhood in the conflict, reportedly engage in hostage-taking of civilians, including women, children, and infants. I intend to bring this issue to the United Nations Human Rights Council and anticipate their defense. The truth must prevail, ending any attempts at deception.

We must closely monitor the response of central forces and agencies to see if rescue efforts are initiated or if the Assam Rifles will be pressed to negotiate with their Kuki allies for the safe release of these hostages. I will ensure that all relevant authorities are alerted to observe and address these apparent acts of terrorism, which have escalated since yesterday.

@narendramodi We stand in solidarity with the people of Sugnu, Manipur, amidst the harrowing violence they face. For over a week, #KukiNarcoTerrorists have bombarded this peaceful village, leaving destruction, casualties, and a community in fear.

Tragically, the situation has escalated to a point where even the elderly are not spared, with five reported deaths due to BP stroke, triggered by the intense stress and fear of the attacks. The victims, including Moirangthem Tombi (103), Khaidem Achoubi (74), Thongam Chaoba (80), Laishram Dasumati (60), and Moirangthem Nandakumar (62), represent a loss that is both deep and irreplaceable to their families and the community at large.

The inaction and silence of the Central security forces are alarming. The residents of Sugnu deserve protection, security, and peace, not abandonment in their hour of need. The damage inflicted upon homes and the very fabric of this community is a stark reminder of the cost of inaction.

This is not just an attack on a village but an assault on humanity and the principles of safety and security that every person should be assured of. We demand immediate intervention to halt these atrocities, accountability for the violence, and a clear commitment to rebuilding and securing the future of Sugnu.

The courage of rights activists and the resilience of the Sugnu community in the face of such adversity is a call to action for us all. It's time for the Indian government, human rights organizations, and the global community to respond with the urgency this crisis demands.
