@AHuntersHowl But ... it was safer if she didn’t say her name. For everyone. Selene was her mother’s name, and it made her smile to say it; albeit a small one.
She takes the offered hand and offers a firm shake in return.
“So ... the motels are decent? Dog friendly?”
@AHuntersHowl “I understand,” and she does. She’s been running from hunters for a few months now.
Not pleasant folks. Her drink arrives and she downs half of it to settle her nerves.
“Selene.”
She could tell he wasn’t lying about who he was, most wolves could sense that sort of thing. »
@AHuntersHowl The bartender nods and her fingers tap the bar as she waits. Maybe she should chill, being so defensive just draws more questions.
“I’m visiting my sister. Just south of here. Been in the woods for awhile. Needed a dose of civilization.”
@AHuntersHowl “What are you, a K-9 unit?”
She scoffs, tensing again. Slightly. Loners like herself, like him ... usually alone for a reason. And the reason is usually never great.
“Can I get a whiskey? Double, neat.”
Since he covered the beer, she has the cash for something stronger. »
@AHuntersHowl “Yeah, you can cover my tab .. and you don’t have to worry about me. Just passing through.”
Her claws retract from the wood, splinters falling into her lap, onto the floor. Some of the tension leaves her shoulders.
@AHuntersHowl “If that’s how you greet every dog that comes to the door I’m surprised you’re still here.”
She glances to the side, briefly sizing him up. He must be one tough son of a bitch — one she hopes hasn’t heard of the blood bounty on her head. She doesn’t need the trouble. »
@AHuntersHowl And some do. She’ll gladly eat those, savoring every bite.
She finishes off her own beer, waves for a third.
“Did put a pretty good dent in your rabbit population, though.”
@AHuntersHowl Funny. She’s been called that, too.
“I don’t eat humans,” said with an annoyed growl. She hates that assumption. That all of their kind eat people. She comes from a pack that partakes in the slaughter, but she never enjoyed it.
“Not unless they deserve it.” »
@AHuntersHowl Rhia had turned back after a moment, tensing as he approached —- every muscle in her body prepared for an attack. One hand settled beneath the bar, claws digging into the wood.
The other calmly held her beer, bringing it to her lips for another sip.
»
@AHuntersHowl And the beer is ordered, and drank down to near-empty.
She’s already ordering another, her blood runs too hot for one beer to do anything. She turns slightly to glance at him over a shoulder .. eyes narrowed.
