@vianne_timmons @MemorialU@marineinstitute@grenfellcampus@munharlow@signalcampus The knowledge we have today? 500+ new cases? 20% test positivity? Our deadliest month? Better run back to our asbestos-ridden campus that crumbles around us when we look at it the wrong way (with kindness 🥰🫂✨💖) 🥸🙌
@TaswafRahman Interesting take. I find the quota may make it harder for small cdn acts to push through the success of big international stars like Drake&Biebs bc the big names still make up much of broadcasters focus. In an ideal world smaller acts would benefit more from the quota #mus2011f20
@Brianna39651765 For sure! I think of cdn artists that were popular when I was in middle school like Karl Wolf and Shawn Desman who got a lot of radio time but never really had international presence and their careers fell off when we started opting for streaming over Canadian radio #mus2011f20
Cancon has its high&lows: it is good for keeping Canadian content out there but not so good at supporting small/emerging cdn acts. A quota is less effective in our digital world where we can stream freely, but necessary nonetheless with much-needed modern improvements #mus2011f20
@FowlowLuke For sure! I love concerts, being able to see your favourite artist perform their songs that you love live is unbeatable. I think that passion can be lost in a cover band but I’m not listening to a cover for passion... I’m at RobRoy and need to hear rattlin bog NOW #mus2011f20
I agree with Wald about MOST people. I myself would rather listen to a recorded song than a cover band (production and sound quality!), but in times like these I’m especially missing the atmosphere live music creates. Even a crappy cover band would bring me great joy #MUS2011F20
@SaraPPowell1 I’m with you. Covers & records give listeners 2 much-needed avenues of choice bc of their stylistic differences! Although cover bands aren’t in my daily music rotation, I still love the atmosphere they create in a local venue w/ a fun crowd & I go see them on the reg!#mus2011f20
@SheldonRyan1 As a non-Newfoundlander who moved here for school, I’ve gained such a huge appreciation for live music here. Perhaps it’s the newfie tunes or maybe we’ve just got some good cover bands over here but our live music scene is special and live is the best way to enjoy imo #mus2011f20
@DylanMa48072489 I see where you're coming from. personally, I try to dismiss this kind of music in my own listening because I'd much rather support the original creative but it's hard to dismiss the entire practice because of the role it has played in the history of popular music #mus2011f20
The fact that songs had to be remade to be deemed "suitable" for white audiences should have made clear that not everything is made for white people. I understand covers&schlock music helped some POC artists make it to the mainstream, but that isn't every artists goal #mus2011f20
@erikajanesqu unfortunately not surprising at all. I was today years old when I found out that tainted love isn't Soft Cell's original song but on Spotify, their version exceeds Gloria Jones' original by about 300 million streams #mus2011f20
@SamJacobson19#mus2011f20 hard not to think of gold digger, my mind went to the same place. The number of artists that have sampled Ray Charles songs & who have been inspired by his unique, disciplined vocal techniques and genre-bending definitely speaks to his greatness and influence in music
@MackenzieLovel5#mus2011f20 Agreed. Ray was able to harness his unique range & unparalleled musicianship and turn it into something brand new, making his talent undeniable to everyone. I think of the artists I enjoy today and what initially drew me into them - their standout soundprints.
#mus2011f20 Something as simple as an emotional voice break is something we can all relate to but for Ray Charles to master and manipulate it in such a unique fashion to create his distinct and highly regarded soundprint is what makes him a truly great artist.
@johnloveless11#mus2011f20 same for me! Making playlists always gives me a big ole serotonin boost. Being able to pick what songs go where based on mood/event/etc., feels very personal and keeps me ever-engaged. I love to share my playlists, make new ones to procrastinate & listen to friends'
