You know, Ron didn't mean to stay away

I see a lot of people talk about him abandoning Harry and Hermione in Deathly Hallows but I feel like people forget that Ron did not actually intend to be gone as long as he was.

He says point blank, that he ended up captured by a band of Snatchers after he apparated. After he got away from them, he apparated back only to discover that Harry and Hermione already left.

He did not know where to find them after that so he went to Bill's ashamed, listened on the radio for signs and checked the Prophet. At the very first sign of being able to find them thanks to the Deluminator, he packed up and went after them.

In other words, if Ron had not walked into the Snatchers, he would have been gone a couple of hours at best before returning looking apologetic.

He did not actively choose to stay away until the Silver Doe.

Yet people act like he purposefully abandoned them for months. Why?
