The @HYTRACLab in the @UNLVGeoscience department at @UNLVresearch is new to twitter! We use tree rings to study:
✅ hydrology
✅ climate
✅ watersheds
✅ river & fisheries ecology
✅ extreme events
across western North America - follow us for science updates from our group!
Congratulations MS student Laura Dye on winning the best poster award at @UNLVGeoscience#GeoSymposium2020! 'Tree rings reveal multi-century snowpack dynamics of the Cascade Range' @UNLVresearch
On Friday, #HYTRACLab undergrad & MS students participated in the @UNLVGeoscience#GeoSymposium! There is still time to view their posters (w recordings) and talks - links below!

"A persuasive, entertaining explanation of how the codes contained in tree rings reveal the effects of climate change." A lovely review of "Tree Story" by Valerie Trouet (@epispheric) in @ShelfAwareness is the cherry on top of our #EarthDay50 celebrations: https://t.co/K6u2vSXRow

.@SlackHQ has been 🔥 for our group working remotely! Here, @Ingaedulisk and I live-troubleshoot traumatic resin ducts in a Pinus engelmannii specimen from Sicamous, #BC.
When furnishing my room I never thought about adding a scope and hundreds of samples but it's a look I'm beginning to like! #ScienceFromHome#laboutpost#keepingsafe
#HYTRACLab is also preparing for remote work, doing our part for vulnerable populations with #SocialDistancing. #Tellervo dendrochronology software is making this possible via remotely-accessed server (sending scopes home with students). Dendros, if you want to set this up PM me!
UPDATE: Out of an abundance of caution, #UNLV will transition to remote instruction beginning Monday, Mar. 23, immediately following spring break.
More details will be at: https://t.co/2MS719rvSI
We had a 👌day in #ArrowCanyonWilderness setting up new sedimentation rate & flood study with @USGS NV Water Sci Center & @blmnv!
Extensive fines over the past ~100 years = big dunes in the background. + 100 yr old mesquite throughout canyon are loaded w flood impact scars
