Thank you @NHM_Science for hosting a fantastic @NERCscience funded freshwater inverts, macrophytes & algae course.
Superb group of course leaders & students, amazing field and lab sessions, great content and useful networking all in 5 days.
Exhausted and inspired!
Taking a closer look into the world of freshwater invertebrates as we sort through a sample💧
Have you used our free printable underlay mat to help you sort your samples into the eight RMI groups?

Excited to see this work start!
We carried out #citizenscience#MoRPh surveys at this site last week to collect baseline habitat quality data... looking forward to collecting more data next year to look at (hopefully) improved physical habitat and vegetation diversity!
Pleased to have been able to put together this poster and have it shared at #Sarr23, even if I couldn’t be there to present it myself after my car overheated on the M1 northbound! 🥵🤦♀️
Out collecting water samples on the @RiverChess between Latimer and Chenies. Measuring phosphate levels to pick up anomalies. Finding the sources and identifying methods to reduce the levels of infiltration.
@ZJAyres Thank you for sharing this.
I’ve done this since I was a child and have tried so many ways to stop without success.
Think I may have some variation of ADHD due to this and other behavioural traits I have. Seeing other’s experiences really does make me feel less alone!
This was so much fun to be involved in! So many excited faces… both kids and their parents 😊
Really enjoying learning all about #Riverflies and sharing that enthusiasm for #invertebrate#ecology with others!

@bugsymac1@PJennings88@RiverChess@Riverflies@bugsymac1 - how can you tell N.lacustris apart?
We found plenty of stonefly on the Hamble Brook winterbourne (near Henley) this past week and very little other @Riverflies target groups… so wondering if they could be this species?
One of my favourite species to find during my monthly fieldwork visits on the @RiverChess … delighted that other people are as enthused about aquatic molluscs as me!
A fantastic find on the #RiverVer and hopefully one of many to come!
#TeamLimpet 🐚
A #chalkstream needs water to thrive. Thanks to Mother Nature, we've have a wet winter with plenty of flow in the #RiverVer. This small mollusc - a River Limpet - has reappeared as a result; the first one we have spotted in years.
@ZJAyres I haven’t technically left my PhD (on a 12 month break) but I’m now a Citizen Science Co-ordinator for an AONB (that I love), that has potential to be made permanent and didn’t require me to have a PhD of course… although I do intend to finish it!
Been speaking to a few people about recording temperature in rivers recently as a result of my new role with @Chilternstreams - I used EnvLoggers from @ElectricBlueCRL for my PhD.
This new product would also make recording temp in shallow #ChalkStreams so easy if anyone is keen!
New product available!
A sturdy and durable NFC extension cable to avoid getting the phone wet or to service hard-to-reach loggers. Can be simple (fits any phone) or with a custom-made 3D clip for a specific phone! Check them at https://t.co/fq2H1I27dA
Such a fun, educational and productive day! Really constructive discussions about winterbourne #CitizenScience methods and with such a lovely group of people too.
