I visited a $50 million Canadian masjid yesterday.

Toronto's Ontario Line, a $34 billion transit project, needed the land under the Islamic Society of Toronto's mosque for a train yard, a station, and the towers rising around it.

Before agreeing to move, the masjid set one condition: the old building stays open until the new one is finished and running.

Not one prayer missed.

They then spent the money right:

→ State-of-the-art gym
→ Madrasas & library
→ Investment properties that will generate revenue and replace donations

As I'm working on building the financial infrastructure for Muslim wealth, it's inspiring to see existing institutions thinking far ahead in achieving this for their community. The future of Islam in the West depends on it.

Q: What happens when a madhab ruling is the opposite of a hadith?

A: When this happens, the imam has a stronger evidence. For example a stronger hadith or Quranic verse that you may not be aware of.

Or that it was abrogated by a later action from the Prophet ﷺ.

Or that the Companions and next generation acted differently, hence the hadith was deemed an exception.

Or that the narrator acted differently from what he narrated and hence the imam deemed the hadith an exception to the rule, not the rule itself.
