As we draw the curtain on the Continental Consultative Workshop on the Operationalization of the #YESHealth Strategy, one statement from Dr. @PromesseCKaniki resonated strongly:
“The point is not to attend the workshop; the point is to implement the strategy.”
This is a timely reminder that the success of #YESHealth will not be measured by meetings held or declarations made, but by how effectively Member States domesticate the strategy and create meaningful opportunities for young people to lead, participate, and contribute to health systems and health security.
The real work begins now.

The Continental Consultative Workshop on Operationalisation and Domestication of the #YESHealth Strategy kicked off today at @AfricaCDC HQ in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
This three-day workshop brings together delegates from African Union Member States, youth experts, and partners.
One of the workshop's key focus areas is to assess the current state of youth engagement and participation in public health while identifying practical, country-specific pathways for implementing the @AfricaCDC Strategy for Youth Engagement and Participation in Global Health.
Today’s session featured in-depth discussions on existing national policies and initiatives for youth engagement in public health, challenges and best practices through country-focused presentations and robust dialogue driven by representatives from Member States.
We are kicking off Day 2 of the Continental Consultative Workshop on Operationalisation and Domestication of the #YESHealth Strategy with a quick recap of Day 1 and a discussion on the strategic objective and its actions.
This session will also include a review of what @AfricaCDC and Member States are already doing, and identify opportunities for synergies and application at the national or continental level.
Meaningful engagements between member state representatives and youth leaders at the ongoing Continental Consultative Workshop on Operationalisation and Domestication of the #YESHealth Strategy.
One key observation from the ongoing Continental Consultative Workshop on the #YESHealth Strategy is that many stakeholders still have varying interpretations of what Meaningful Youth Engagement and Participation truly entails.
As we move towards implementation, I encourage everyone to study the strategy closely and understand the principles, structures, and standards that distinguish meaningful engagement from tokenistic participation.

KEY TAKEAWAYS from the YOUNITE FOR HEALTH Side Event:
📑No initiative on the continent can succeed without the engagement of young people because this demographic is not just a number; it's a strategic opportunity, and an opportunity if taken as an opportunity.
📑The strategy that we are going to launch this afternoon is going to be the strategy covering our initiative at the Africa CDC, in institutionalizing youth leadership and participation in global health.
📑Together, we can build a resilient health system that reflects the energy, creativity, and leadership that we have among our young people.
📑At Africa CDC, we want to make sure that we are engaging young people, and we want them to be transformative, contributing to the agenda that we have on the continent, because we believe in equipping young people with the tools and allowing them to have a platform.
