“Today, I am not carrying my honorary shield alone; I will be a shield that protects, with my own strength, the children of Lebanon, the South, and the entire world. I will be the voice of children whom our state does not hear. I will be a voice crying out against every oppressor who steals our future. Thank you.”
With these words, young Lauren Abdel Samad welcomed a delegation from the “Habbat Al-Quloub” Initiative, accompanied by a member of the “Campaign to Boycott Supporters of Israel in Lebanon.”
On August 9, 2026, the delegation visited the courageous young player at her family’s home in her hometown of Ammatour, Chouf District, in recognition of her decision to refuse to play a match against an “Israeli” player. Her stance embodied her commitment to her national, humanitarian, and ethical values, and symbolically expressed her solidarity with the children of Lebanon who have fallen victim to the brutal Israeli aggression.
The under-8 chess champion chose to turn her presence on the chessboard into a platform for expressing a position that transcends the game, refusing to allow sporting competition to become a gateway to normalization with those whose name is associated with the killing of children, the displacement of families, and the destruction of lives. She chose to raise a voice that refuses to sell its principles and values for a championship trophy.
The visit concluded with the honoring of Lauren Abdel Samad with a commemorative shield and a photograph, in appreciation of her small but powerful voice, which stands as a testament that children are not merely victims of wars, but are also capable of taking a stand, preserving their memory, and defending the values in which they believe.

(2/2)
When he is unable to speak, he tries to distract himself by playing, as if he were searching among his toys for the childhood that was stolen from him, or for a small home that he could build again, a home that airstrikes would never destroy and from which no one could ever take his loved ones away again.
Despite all this pain, Ali still carries a deep faith that his mother planted in his heart when he was very young.
He believes that the martyrs are alive and that they will return with the Imam. And so, every day, he waits for that great promise.
He waits for the Imam for one reason only: so that he may see his mother once more, embrace his brother and sister, and sit beside his grandfather and grandmother as they once did in the home that still stands in his memory.
Ali is not waiting for the past to return. He knows that his loved ones are gone. But he is waiting for the reunion.
And between the pain of loss and the hope of reunion lives a little child whose heart has been burdened by tragedy, yet who, despite everything, still clings to hope.
“Twenty-Five Minutes Beneath the Rubble”.
The Wounded Child: Ali Zaiour.
Written by: Abbas Zaiour (his father)
(1/2)
Twenty-five minutes beneath the rubble felt longer than his entire life.
He emerged alive, but his eyes still carried the fear of that moment, while his heart held a longing for the home and loved ones he had left beneath the ruins.
His body survived, but his soul is still searching for the safety that the war stole from him.
And when he finally emerged into the light, he did not know that everything had changed.
He had lost his grandfather and grandmother, his aunts and uncle, his mother, his brother, and his sister.
In a single moment, Ali became the only survivor of a home once filled with life. Suddenly, he stood alone before a void that words could never describe.
Ali recalls that the last thing etched in his memory before the house collapsed was sitting beside his brother. They were playing with modeling clay, innocently shaping it into little figures, filled with the joy of childhood.
His mother was sitting across from them, feeding his baby sister and watching them with the loving, reassuring eyes of a mother. Beside them stood his grandfather, quietly observing the scene with contentment and peace.
None of them knew that these would be the last moments they would share together.
They seemed like ordinary moments, yet they have become the most precious thing Ali possesses today: a small image preserved in his heart: a mother feeding her baby, two brothers playing, a grandfather standing beside them, and a home alive with warmth and life.
Ali says:
“I was playing with modeling clay with my brother when, suddenly, my mother heard the sound of the missile. She rushed toward us and gathered me and my siblings in her arms. Immediately afterward, everything went dark, and I felt as though my entire body had been electrified. I no longer knew what had happened.”
But Ali did not lose consciousness.
He remained awake beneath the rubble, surrounded by darkness and dust, unable to see anything and unaware of what had happened to his family.
He screamed and called out, waiting for an answer that never came, while struggling against the fear that surrounded him from every side.
The minutes passed heavily, as though they were an entire lifetime, until he finally heard a voice break through the silence.
A rescue worker had reached him.
Ali stretched out his small, trembling hand. The rescue worker gently took it, then lifted him into his arms and carried him out into the light.
In that moment, Ali emerged alive from beneath the rubble. But he also emerged carrying in his heart a memory that would never fade: the memory of a child left alone in the darkness, struggling against fear and calling out for his loved ones, until a merciful hand came to carry him from the midst of death into life.
Since that day, Ali has continued to relive that moment in every detail.
He has not forgotten the sound of the missile, his mother running toward him, or the warmth of her arms as she held him and his siblings for the last time.
He has been unable to forget a single moment: the faces, the voices, his brother’s laughter, and the last look in his mother’s eyes.
Three months have now passed since the massacre.
Physically, Ali has improved greatly, and his health has gradually returned.
Psychologically, however, he still carries the effects of that day in every aspect of his life.
He refuses to sleep unless he is beside me, and whenever he wakes during the night, he reaches out his hand to make sure that I am still close to him.
He is afraid of the dark and of loud noises. Even small firecrackers now awaken a fear in his heart that he cannot hide, because they instantly bring back the sound of the missile that changed his life forever.
He tries to speak about what happened, to recount what he lived through, but the words fail him, and he falls silent.

PAIN WILL NOT DEFEAT US!
Author: The Wounded Aseel Sharara.
I am Aseel, daughter of the South, an unyielding flower of Bint Jbeil.
In my eyes there is not merely sorrow, but a home that collapsed, laughter that was extinguished, and names I once called out that no longer answer.
I am the child who survived — not because death did not know the way to me, but because life chose to entrust me with this grief as a trust to bear.
My father was martyred, and he had been my foundation before he was ever a name.
My siblings Seline, Selan, and Hadi departed, martyred — companions of my days, my laughter, my childhood.
My mother and I remained, bleeding in silence, weaving fear together with patience, learning how to live as a quarter of a family, carrying an age heavier than our years.
In my body there are wounds, and in my soul a war that has not ended, yet I am not broken.
I am angry, yes, and the world’s injustice passes through my chest each night, but I shall grow…
Not to seek vengeance, but to bear witness.
I shall grow to say that we were here, that childhood was shelled, and that justice was delayed but not defeated.
A vow that pain shall not defeat us, and that those who survived shall not forget.
I am the wounded one… yet I remain. I am the witness… and the story is not yet finished.
Between us and them lie mountains of the martyred dead, and rivers of rancor, blood, wailing, and a long-standing vengeance.

“A Conversation That Will Never Leave My Heart”.
Author: Ahmad Fares
To the World…
I want you to know who my daughter Fatima was—not as a mere statistic in the news, but as a human being who filled life with love and hope.
Fatima was an exceptionally bright child, deeply passionate about learning. At the age of five, she had already memorized the capitals of the world, astonishing everyone with her intelligence and curiosity.
She was compassionate, virtuous, outgoing, athletic, and an active Scout. Whenever she saw someone in need, she was the first to offer help with her warm smile and big heart. She radiated joy wherever she went, as if a smile were created solely to grace her face.
As the first grandchild in her maternal family, she was everyone’s cherished princess. She grew up surrounded by indescribable love, giving us all a reason to smile every single day.
Her dreams were never too big for her young heart; she dreamed of pursuing her education, succeeding, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of those around her. She believed in goodness and practiced it daily with her innate innocence and spontaneity.
Today, I write about her because I refuse to let the world remember her as a passing headline. She was a child with a name, a laugh, dreams, and a heart overflowing with love.
This is Fatima…
My daughter, my pride, and my princess.
Though her physical presence may be gone, her virtues, her smile, and the cherished memories she left behind will remain forever alive in the hearts of all who knew her.
May God rest your soul, Fatima. You will remain a story I tell the world for as long as I live.
For the first time, I share this memory:
During the Haqbat Al-Isnad (Support Conflict) period, Fatima would sometimes come to me filled with fear, asking with pure childhood innocence:
“Papa… what if the Israelis bomb us?”
Attempting to reassure her, I would gently reply:
“If that happens… we become martyrs.”
She looked at me with wonder and asked:
“What does martyrdom mean?”
I sat with her and explained—as best a father could to a young child—that a martyr goes to God’s mercy, that God bestows great honor upon them, and that they transition to a far more beautiful place.
She paused for a moment, then asked in all innocence:
“Does that mean we go to Grandpa?”
Her grandfather had passed away some time before.
Suppressing my pain, I smiled and said:
“Yes, my darling… God willing.”
Little did I know that this conversation would be etched into my heart forever, and that her innocent words would echo through every remaining day of my life.
Fatima was a child who viewed the world through a pure heart, asking questions born of an innocence known only to children.

Amir, the Boy Overflowing with Intelligence and Kindness.
By Doaa Yazbek
My cousin Amir was not an ordinary child. Although he was not yet nine years old, he was exceptionally intelligent. He loved exploring and searching for information wherever he could find it. He even watched YouTube videos not merely for entertainment, but to learn and expand his knowledge. Amir also had a remarkably warm and endearing presence. Anyone who met him remembered him; there was something uniquely charming about him that left a lasting impression.
During our weekly family gatherings, Amir never failed to amaze me with the wealth of information he had memorized. By the age of seven, he had already learned the capitals of most countries around the world. He had also memorized the Holy Qur’an and possessed a deep knowledge of our Imams, in addition to his great love of reading. He was exceptionally gifted in mathematics as well, effortlessly performing calculations with large numbers, whether through addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division.
Amir learned to spell words when he was only six years old, and his sharp mind constantly astonished us. Whenever we drove together, he would read aloud the shop posters and billboards we passed in both Arabic and English. Even when we sat in front of the television, he was the one who would read the breaking news ticker to us.

Ali, the Cheerful Face of the South..
By: Zainab Muslimani
Handsome Ali, just six and a half years old, was a child of southern Lebanon who paid no attention to the sound of shelling. Throughout 85 days of war, he remained steadfast, playing among the olive trees with laughter and joy, refusing to leave his home.
Always cheerful, lively, and blessed with a lighthearted spirit, he was everyone’s companion, with a presence that filled every place with happiness.
Ali was raised in a home filled with faith and love under the care of his devoted parents, alongside his brother, who lovingly called him “my support.”
I used to see him racing everyone to prayer. Despite his young age, he loved the martyrs and wished to meet them. God granted him martyrdom, and he became one of them.
He was a member of the Imam al-Mahdi Scouts and an enthusiastic, joyful student.
He also loved animals, caring for every creature he came across and following them with innocent curiosity.
Then, on May 27, 2026, an Israeli-American airstrike struck the family’s home, and Ali was killed as a result.
Ali attained martyrdom, while we were left grieving the loss of his beautiful presence and the joy he brought into our lives.

As part of its ongoing efforts to document child martyrs, the Initiative’s team today identified the third-largest Israeli massacre of children in Lebanon since 2023 in the town of Younin near Baalbek.
The massacre took place on September 25, 2024, and the Initiative documented 14 Syrian child martyrs from three families of the Abdul Qadir clan, seven of whom were from a single family. The children’s fathers, mothers, and grandfather were also killed.
The entire family was gathered together at the time of the airstrike, preparing to leave for Syria until the aggression ended.
