Contract season! 💰🧵
The Canadiens have four RFAs on their active NHL roster, and each presents a different decision for management.
Here's what they bring to the table and my prediction for their future in Montreal.
Demidov will be a superstar in this league.
He is an elite talent with a tireless work ethic. Time to lock him in before he truly breaks out with improved linemates.
A long-term extension would benefit the Canadiens, and it’s no secret Ivan wants to stay.
Prediction: 8 X $9M
I hope Gally finds a new home where he’ll be happy and can play out the rest of his career. He deserves it.
Vancouver feels like the most likely destination. If it is, he’ll be a great leader for a young team.
His tribute in Montreal might just cause another earthquake.
@boucherfra48894@CanadiensMTL I wouldn’t want to wait another season. I think both the player and team would like to get it done this summer.
Waiting could drive the price up. If he puts 80+ points up next season, that $9M is now $10M or more.
@ElkineRichard_@CanadiensMTL Absolutely. I could see him being the next player on the team to hit the 100-point mark with improved linemates and a few seasons under his belt.
@mets_jon@CanadiensMTL I imagine the Canadiens will work with his agent to make sure Ivan gets fair value that balances his worth with Montreal's current contracts.
Given the rising cap, I just can’t see him coming in under Hutson. I would love to be pleasantly surprised though!
AJ Greer would be a solid depth addition for the Canadiens, bringing much-needed size, physicality, and energy to the bottom six.
Coming off a career year in Florida, Greer would add a heavy forechecking presence to the fourth line after recording back-to-back 200+ hit seasons.
@Jobit77@ivandemigoal Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovský
EMPTY - EMPTY - Demidov
Newhook - Hage - Bolduc
Greer - Evans - Anderson
The 2C would come via trade, and if we could find a way, I would bring in a LW as well.
I just don’t see where he would fit, unless Hage is 2LW, which I don’t hate at all.
@ivandemigoal I think as an extra forward. If anybody goes down, he can kind of fill in anywhere.
We’ve seen him up with Nick and Cole, and all the way down on the fourth line. I think he’s a cheap gadget player who can slot in where needed and provide a solid presence.
I’m seeing discourse about why Frederik Andersen couldn’t be this bad in the series against Montreal.
He had an .886 SV% against the Canadiens.
Montreal averaged just 17.6 SOG across the five-game series.
Andersen let in five goals in one of the two games they had 20+ SOG.
List of things Vegas coach John Tortorella said he's not talking about at Stanley Cup press conference:
- himself/his year
- Martin St. Louis
- "nostalgia and all that stuff"
- Carolina
@iehedbsksb70405@MikeBartner I think they’ll go with a clean $9M.
If he had signed at the same time as Hutson, I could see them landing on the same number. Given that contract values tend to rise a little bit annually as the cap increases, I think his deal comes in just a bit higher.
Steal either way.
Introducing the Montréal Victoire: the first Canadian team to bring the Walter Cup home to Canada. Your victory was a milestone for women’s hockey — and a proud moment for all Canadians. 🇨🇦
@RiseFromTheAshZ True! He’s everything this team needs in a player. Volume shooter and hitter with a relentless motor.
I watched a few Kings games this year and the Fiala/Byfield/Laferriere line was unreal.
His age fits perfectly with this roster as well.
