More than a bottle’s worth of aerosol sunscreen could be needed to provide adequate protection for a whole body, says @HackerElke, with 250 seconds needed to spray each limb: https://t.co/LvbTIfsTZa
Heading outdoors this weekend? @CancerCouncilOz and @arpansanews have urged Australians to ditch aerosol sunscreen and slop it on the old-fashioned way following results of a new study led by @HackerElke at @MenziesHealth.
Here's why 🧵
I am so proud to be a female scientist undertaking translational research with Cancer Council Victoria and ARPANSA. It was wonderful to see our project testing Aerosol Sunscreens feature on page-3 of The Sunday Telegraph and on Nine and 7news.

Recently @HackerElke shared her recent work at the QLD Skin Cancer Prevention Collaborative Symposium. @HackerElke surveyed QLD school leavers at the School Leaver Festival 2021 to understand sun protection behaviours of adolescents. Keep an eye out for the results! 👀
#TeamMemberTuesday@HackerElke is one of ihop Senior Researchers.
Elke’s research forms part of our cancer prevention stream and is focused on testing technology and creating solutions to prevent cancer.
Watch this space this month as we share insights on Elke’s work! 👀
The @ihop_research program focuses on cancer prevention, early detection and the physical and psychosocial recovery process following cancer treatment.

Last week @HackerElke started her REDI-BridgeTech fellowship on vaccine technology with the Vaxxas Team in Brisbane.
As part of the fellowship, Elke will be looking at how new technology can be used to provide real-time #data for #vaccination programs.
UV radiation can reflect off surfaces like sand or concrete, meaning shade doesn't always prevent sunburn, writes @HackerElke + @LouiseBeHealthy:

In 2019, after getting a terminal melanoma diagnosis, Jonny was told he was cancer-free! Before this news, he went to the brewmaster at the brewery he worked at, @GooseIsland and said instead of a tombstone, he wanted a beer, “Lost Palate”. Read his story: https://t.co/GCxuleD6KM
It’s been over a decade since we have seen large-scale national skin cancer prevention messaging like the well-known Slip, Slop, Slap campaign. To achieve real change in the sun protection habits of Australians, significant investment is needed in mass media campaigns.
Despite being raised in a culture of sun safety, young Australians are getting sunburnt at high rates!
I chatted with @OnlyHuman4zzz about my research into the use of #VR tech to educate about sun exposure.

"You missed a spot!"
Great to see @HackerElke & team's research gaining recognition.
This webcam style UV camera lets users know when they've missed a spot in applying sunscreen and helps create engage sun protection messages.
Technology + research = better sun safety in QLD!
Summer is almost here -- & that means people headed to the beaches in throngs. ☀️
Our researchers are working to keep people safe in crowds.
On the w'end, @HackerElke traveled to the #GoldCoast to test her UV hand washing testing station.

The role of being a caregiver to one w/cancer can seem overwhelming, but it’s important to know that you are not alone, and you have support. We have created a caregiver support guide to help those who are taking on the responsibility of being a caregiver: https://t.co/o8RzUUxbIY
