@howardnoakley Oops, okay, I had assumed Apple had stopped signing earlier M1 IPSWs the way they do it with iOS/iPadOS IPSWs. - Turns out I was wrong. 🤭 😊 However, they could still stop signing these IPSWs once Monterey gets released, couldn’t they?

@howardnoakley That, the absence of offline updates for Big Sur+, the update signing chicanes preventing M1 machines from downgrading and the complete lack of a macOS LTS release make me believe Apple’s OS strategy is not moving in a healthy direction (despite their commercial success with it)

@howardnoakley No problem, I didn’t seriously expect you to write about it considering it’s a pre-pre-Big Sur problem. 🙂 Just on a purely systematic level, it’s another good example of how Apple is arbitrarily restricting access to (re-)installation resources against their customers’ interest.

@howardnoakley I’m referring to the so-called iTunes Business version’s ability to download iOS/iPadOS apps. That’s artificially blocked by Apple, while the very same version for Windows continues to download IPA files - and the macOS versions does so, too, if you rewrite its queries’ headers.

@howardnoakley I already reproduced the user-agent rewrite with Charles and the result is that iTunes 12.6.5.3 / macOS 10.14.6 app downloads are fully restored. I‘ve also used Charles in the past as a MITM to download older app versions.

@Jeffhar66220280 Actually you're wrong. The iMac M1's direct predecessor, the 21.5" iMac (4K/FD 2019), has both upgradeable PC4-21300 DDR4 RAM and a standard 2,5" 6 Gb/s Serial ATA connector. And just by the way, it's never too late to remind the industry it should design sustainable products.
