Here’s what happens when we call men to the church with a promise about teaching them to “lead” rather than teaching them to follow Jesus and serve.
They will enter the church assuming they are meant to call the shots even when they are less spiritually mature and unqualified.
Systems that cover up abuse through deception, coercion, or abuse of power, mimic the perpetrator and re victimize the victim. Tragically, many lives have been sacrificed on the altar of secrecy for the sake of the church or the mission.
@ToniHargis@drantbradley I attempted a charitable turn of phrase, but alas! He found me comprehensively uncharitable, lol. My comments are mainly for the sake of vulnerable readers. Marriage counseling is highly discouraged when abuse is involved. Divorce cannot be separated from precipitating events
to weigh in on the "should we allow coffee in church" debate, the answer is yes, but ONLY caffeinated coffee.
as we learn from the story of Moses and Aaron at Mount Sinai, worshiping de-caf is idolatry and we shouldn't tolerate it
@Theyre_Teddy@drantbradley I do not expect my perspective to be valued by Dr. Bradley. I can, however, speak in the hope that those who confess Christ can grow in a posture of care for their neighbor. The dismissal of real people sharing their pain caught my attention.
@melderry@drantbradley This is exactly what I am attempting to communicate. The impact of *not* divorcing can cause damage. The correlation is worth examining but not in isolation. We could just as easily say "x number of children with married parents express SI". So marriage destroys kids?
@drantbradley Thank you, then, for taking the time to personally respond. I look forward to hearing your proposed action steps to support children of divorced parents who experience debilitating mental health issues.
@liliaeth@drantbradley At this point I am really just interested in what action step Dr. Bradley would recommend in order to prevent harm. Is it staying married? Something else?
@drantbradley "What is wrong with you people" is a curious response to my comment. I am asking you to consider the nuance of correlation vs. causation. These distinctions matter for people who seek to honor the lord and protect their children. What are your proposed solutions?
@Theyre_Teddy@drantbradley Yes. I am truly seeking to understand what Dr. Bradley's personal words are intending to achieve, and I am asking him to consider the benefit of providing a solution. If divorce always destroys children, is the answer to not divorce? Is it something else? This is key.
@TN_in_CA@drantbradley Just keeping things in the open. I make these appeals because dr. Bradley is a professing Christian, and in the spirit of public discourse I thought it might be prudent to make others aware of what was likely the impetus behind his post here. I welcome solutions.
@drantbradley "This is a harmful reply " was regarding you instructing me to stop exaggerating. I believe you care about children and families and marriages. Again, what is your solution? What is the next step after telling people that divorce destroys kids?
