Hadal (Talk), is an organisation dedicated to breaking the stigma around mental health within our community. We are a group consisting of volunteers, including professionals, and we hope to change attitudes surrounding mental health.
This event is about celebrating our language and we’re going to talk about the history .talk about identity and language and how we express our Emotions through our language. The event is free, and we look forward to seeing everyone.#Somalia
1/1 Today is the World Mental Health Awareness Day. Mental health is seen as a taboo in our culture and sometimes we don’t acknowledge it or know about it. I hope we bring more awareness and have more open conversation about it. Let’s talk.#hadal

4/4 being a Somali suffering from mental health is not easy. We need to stop shaming and silencing people. We need to understand that our attitude towards MH does not help the situation and only makes matters worse. Being Somali with a MH condition, just adds fuel to the fire
The suffering you go through in silence because your family don’t understand that your sadness, anger and pain is a result of what’s happened. The trauma. They don’t understand that your “disobedience” is a cry for help. It’s a “help me hooyo”. They don’t understand that your
3/3 a death sentence. All you want is to be understood, heard and accepted. You don’t want to be labelled, teased, judged or disrespected. You don’t want someone saying it’s because of your lack of relationship with God that’s caused you to feel this way.
2/2 sadness cannot be wiped away just by reading Quran and praying. They don’t understand you grieve every day. They don’t understand your anxiety or depression. They don’t understand you. Me.
In all honesty, to be Somali living with a mental health condition feels like
