As we get closer to Hurricane Season, here is a refresher on the Saffir-Simpson WIND scale. Personally, it's long overdue for an upgrade. Wind is not the only hazard of a hurricane and other hazards can be far more destructive and damaging (i.e. Katrina surge, Harvey flooding, Florence flooding, etc)

Dr. Jennifer Collins did a great research paper recently where she made a scale that factors in wind, rain, storm surge to name a few. She noted in the study that “people make better informed and more appropriate decisions" with "substantially better identification of the main hazard" in the new scale vs the current Saffir-Simpson wind scale.
