This is the same impossible beauty standard women deal with in real life. Wear makeup and people say you’re fake, must be ugly without it, or “you look better natural.” Show natural features and suddenly you’re “masculine,” “ugly” or “designed badly.”
When people say they want “naturally beautiful” female characters, they usually still mean designed, symmetrical, flattering, youthful and camera-ready. That is not “natural.” That is idealized beauty with the labor made invisible.
