Game day in Piney Woods was so much fun! So many skills come into playing games like collaboration, communicating, taking turns, and learning how to win and lose.
Using the common thread strategy, students were tasked with sorting insects into two groups. I did not tell them they were insects and I did not tell them how to sort. Most groups came up with fly and not fly. We then sorted as a class. This was our introduction to insects.
As we wrapped up our animal unit, students chose an animal to research. They worked independently and in groups to learn where their animal lives and what it eats. Through this activity, they collaborated with peers and practiced their writing skills. 🐾📚

In early childhood classrooms, art isn’t about perfection.
It’s about exploration. It’s about creativity. It’s about learning through play.
When children paint, they’re not just making a picture—they’re experimenting, discovering new textures, and expressing their ideas!
We ended our Friday with writing and playing through math!
-ten frames
-number recognition
-shape review
-writing/drawing stamina
What a fun way to review our learning!
🚗✨ Pre-K Imagination in Motion!
After reading “If I Built a Car” by Chris Van Dusen, our Pre-K artists let their imaginations take the wheel! 🎨 They designed any vehicle they could dream of—with rocket boosters, rainbow wheels, pet seats, and more! 🚀 #ChrisVanDusen#prek
Today’s math fun: roll a dice, show the number! Our Pre-K students represented their numbers in multiple ways on whiteboards—so proud of their growing number sense! 🎲🤍
Don't forget...tomorrow is our Winter Family Engagement Night at Calhoun! We will also have the gift card box available for you to bring in your donations for staff. We can't wait to see you for some fun in the snow!
STEM meets holiday cheer in pre-K! 🧲🔔 The kids loved testing how Magna-Tiles could carry, shake, and jingle their bells. So fun watching the ideas grow! 🎄
