🚨Crystal Palace head coach Pierre Sage on his second Premier League match after a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City:

🗣️ Reporter: “Pierre, what did you make of your second Premier League match and the way Manchester City punished Palace tonight?”

🗣️ Pierre Sage: “The Premier League is really competitive. We had very little time to prepare for this match, but coming into the game we could feel that our players were ready for the challenge. We knew exactly how difficult Manchester City would be, but we wanted to test ourselves against one of the best teams in the league.

“We tried to stop Haaland and his movement, and we also prepared specifically for Phil Foden. Initially, we had no idea Ryan Cherki was going to start, so we had very little time to make plans around him. And honestly, he took the game personally. I heard him in the tunnel before the second half telling Semenyo and his teammates that they could still win the game. I told my players to stay focused because I knew one moment could change everything.

“Then, a few moments later, Cherki produces a Puskás-level goal and suddenly we were completely rattled. That is the quality Manchester City have. You can defend well for long periods, but one player can produce something extraordinary and change the entire atmosphere of the match. After that goal, we lost our organisation for a few minutes and City punished us.

“I was also disappointed for Jeremy Pino because he scored an absolute screamer. Unfortunately, it was given as an own goal, but honestly, I believe he deserves that goal. The technique, the intention and the quality of the strike were there. Sometimes football takes those moments away from you, but I told him afterwards that he should be proud of what he produced.

“For us, the scoreline is disappointing, but this is only our second Premier League match. We have to learn quickly. Against Manchester City, you cannot switch off for even five minutes because they will make you pay. We will analyse this game, learn from our mistakes and make sure the next performance shows that we belong in this league.”
