Update:
>50 pro-democracy activists and/ or District Councillors have been arrested at 6am in #HongKong.
Right before the US Electoral-Vote Count on 6th Jan.
We strongly condemn the arrests of pro-democracy activists who stood in last year's democratic primaries. Beijing is once again undermining Hong Kong's democracy & breaching its obligations under the Sino-British Joint Declaration.
Winning an election is subversion of the state.
Ok then.
A reminder that we signed a treaty promising to protect #HongKong from stuff like this. Where are those promises now?
1. The current political crackdown is not only limited to the winners of the 2020 Pro-Democracy Primary Elections, nor is it limited to the Resistance Camp formed after the Primaries. This is a large-scale liquidation involving 52 democrats across different political spectrums.
In response to Hong Kong's political crackdown, I urge the European Parliament to halt the EU-China investment deal and EU to sanction China&HK officials who are responsible to the arrests.
#Retweet if you agree MEP should VETO the bill and EU should act.

Breaking: Five pro-democracy politicians in #HongKong have just been arrested by police this morning for violating the #NSL, including Tiffany Yuen, Gwyneth Ho, Alvin Yeung, Fergus Leung and Ventus Lau. Four of them were related to participation in the Legco primary.
So winning elections is subversion?
#CCP is only doing this to #HongKong because Britain & the free world has responded to grave breaches of an international treaty with mere words
@DominicRaab@BorisJohnson words don't work with #XiJinping. Actions might

More than 50 of Hong Kong’s most vocal activists and organizers were arrested under the National Security Law for participating / organizing the 2020 “35+” democratic primaries this morning.
Expecting more.
Participants of the 2020 Hong Kong pro-democracy primaries have been arrested by national security police early this morning, according to reports. They each have been alleged with a count of subversion, an offense under Beijing’s sweeping National Security Law.
Just to be clear, #HK political crackdown is having a significant negative impact on business. Legitimate questions about rule of law raised + as #HK image deteriorates, it becomes more and more difficult to defend why you should maintain costly operations here
According to #NowTVnews, at least 50 Pan-Democratic candidates of district council election are arrested by #HongKong police’s national security unit this morning, for participated 2020 pro-democracy primaries, they’re accused for alleged inciting subversion of state power.
[Just In] Former lawmakers James To, Andrew Wan, Lam Cheuk Ting were arrested by police national security branch this morning for last yr legislature election. Police said “35+” (winning the majority in LegCo election) was an act of SUBVERSION, in violation of the NSL.
Alvin Yeung, Ventus Lau & Gary Fan have also been arrested, according to their social media accounts. Fergus Leung is also being served with a search warrant at his home, so an arrest is likely to follow
That's at least seven arrests in relation to the pre-LegCo primary in July.
The scale of this crackdown is unprecedented.
The free world must now act in an unprecedentedly robust manner.
Tough, targeted, coordinated sanctions.
A generous worldwide lifeboat scheme.
A UN Special Rapporteur
Cancellation of the ridiculous EU-CCP investment deal.
NOW.
#HongKong people spoke loud and clear about their determination for democracy when 600,000 participated in the primary elections last year.
Today, Chung is among dozens of candidates arrested for subverting national security.
