(She/her) Social Anthropologist Postdoc @SoziologieUnibi PhD @Cambridge_Uni Researching financial speculation in everyday settings and how that shapes our life
Piles of lits always blur my vision with vague big questions yet this powerful manifesto would always lead me back to the original passion and anger that took me here, hence to be the spirit of this account.

Sometimes when I open LinkedIn and although it’s full of academics I remember that was the very world I quitted my job and moved half earth away to escape.

It’s not a black box. It’s temporary equilibrium set by engineers to meet the criteria of financial statements- the accounting system that determines the profitability of the institutions to maximise the shareholder’s value.
Recently I had this confusion when reading about articles that describe the suggestion systems of financial services that assess individual’s financial capabilities with certain inputs as a “black box”. The thing is that they’re not. They’re clean models funded on spreadsheets.
The foundations of any valuation models are clearly defined by equitations, though refined by institutionally specific variables. My concern is that enforcing the designed effects of these financial tools might just further mystify the financial system
I'm a South Korean journalist based in New York City. This is a thread about what's happening in South Korea right now after the president declared emergency martial law.
Steeped in memories of Jane Guyer, who passed away yesterday at the age of 80. One of the most extraordinary minds in contemporary anthropology, and a person of such wisdom, generosity, and compassion at Johns Hopkins University, where she taught and led our dept for many years.
During the pandemic after a deeply traumatic birth, @LivUni made me, a single mum, redundant with a baby to support. Today, I tell @timeshighered why unis must do more to support precarious staff with families. @PregnantScrewed @ULivUCU2@FaulknerEliza https://t.co/qN668E28LS
I've read nothing like this before—a painfully honest piece about the cruelty and patriarchy of academia, viewed through the lens of a grieving wife. Lang Chen remembers the last days of husband @Xiaohong__Xu, a brilliant, beloved sociologist from China who passed away at age 45.
Good afternoon (or morning, or evening). I went dark yesterday, really dark. But I managed to sleep and I have some clarity about the Al Ahli hospital massacre that I want to share with you. I'll only tweet this rambling thread today and then log off. Please read and share.
The British royal family presided over a regime that committed genocide on several continents, produced famines that killed tens of millions of people, and trafficked in humans for some 200 years.

@vivianwubeijing The tragedy of this uni began with its legacy of paradoxically being the symbol of both nationalism in historical narratives and the threat to the current CCP regime. It’s just another manipulated puppet and has been so for a long long time.
