Congratulations to the people of Hanimaadhoo and Bodu Thiladhunmathi on the official inauguration of Hanimaadhoo International Airport. The airport will prove transformative for the region’s rapid economic development.

Along with the airport, Hanimaadhoo would need to strengthen its wider economic ecosystem. Especially by expanding tourism capacity and enabling new enterprises to unlock the region’s full potential.I hope the government remains steadfast in seeing this through.

A sad day for democracy in the Maldives!

President Muizzu, using his party’s supermajority in parliament, has rushed through the so-called Media Control Bill—a law that signifies the end of press freedom in Maldives. The underhanded manner in which it was forced through parliament, despite protests by journalists, opposition parties, media organizations, civil society, and the public, lays bare the government’s disregard for Maldivians’ democratic rights.

The Maldivian Democratic Party (@MDPSecretariat ) will not yield to this affront to the people’s will. We will stand firm and fight for the social and political rights of all Maldivians. ✊🇲🇻

If a Maldivian who lives abroad is eligible to get 750 USD through BML at rasmee bank rate, the same privilege should be accorded to Maldivians living in the country.

There should be no discrimination.

We take pride in saying that we provide insurance cover in the country of residence to any Maldivian national. Perhaps, the only country in the world.

A person who chooses to live abroad does so because they have the luxury to do it. The government should not be under an obligation to provide them financial resources beyond what we can afford.

All Maldivians should be able to avail of 750 US Dollars per month from BML.
