Trump despises women. He does not like seeing women succeed unless he can take credit or it's useful to him personally.

Which makes this situation even more jarring. This should have been an easy PR victory for Trump. Nothing but upside for him personally.

He could have called the U.S. women's hockey team and congratulated them, but he didn't.

But even then, all he had to do on the call with the men's hockey team is congratulate them and throw in a line about being proud of both teams.

Easy comms slam dunk but it's too much for a committed misogynist. He couldn't bring himself to do it.

His impulse was to mock the women's team because that's how he sees women.
