@JeremyECrawford I had a question on the Hide action rules in the new UA. Unlike the rules on Hiding in the PHB, there's no mention of passive perception within the new Hide action. Within the playtest, is it assumed Passive Perception doesn't interact with new rules on stealth and hiding?
@oramacsilver@MTBlack2567 Since it requires attunement by a spellcaster, you use your own spell attack modifier for the attack roll. It doesn't seem OP at all tbh. It requires attunement, doesn't increase damage with level, and doesn't add a mod to damage. It's just a worse version of Ray of Frost.
@MTBlack2567 Not sure if we aren't seeing the full item description, but it states that you make an attack against a creature within range, but then doesn't list that range.
@jamesjhaeck@itsginnydi I've got an Armorer Artificer/Rune Knight fighter rolled up for a campaign starting soon. Those two subclasses synergize really well to make a strong tank build, but leave you room to sneak when necessary. He's basically going to be a power ranger.
@sevindik690 @minusxero @AoRgtx3404 @Kyrichu The issue is groups that LGBTQ+ does not encompass also want equal treatment, and people always seem to forget about them because apparently "human rights for all" is too hard to understand.
Not a dig at you, just explaining why more letters are added.
@JeremyECrawford If a flying creature without the ability to hover got affected by Otto's Irresistible Dance, would it stay in place in the air while dancing, or would it plummet to the ground?
@DaveWil33@JeremyECrawford@Wizards_DnD Even if you still can't use Booming Blade with Warcaster, which is what I expect, it's so poorly written I'm not actually sure, I'm hoping if Crawford replies, there's at least some reasoning given for why the spell is worded unlike anything else in the game
@DaveWil33@JeremyECrawford@Wizards_DnD Right, but the smite spells are only a range of self, with no radius. And that's half of why I asked Crawford the question in the first place.
@DaveWil33@JeremyECrawford@Wizards_DnD Barring the change itself, the wording on the spell is so bad, and it doesn't line up with how other spells are written. I'll be house-ruling it for my players regardless, but that doesn't mean I don't have questions about how the spell works when nothing else works like this.
@DaveWil33@JeremyECrawford@Wizards_DnD Except no other spells work like this, so I'm trying to understand the mechanics behind it. No other spell with a range of self and a radius can only affect a single target like this. And spells like Primal Savagery that function similarly are only a range of self.
@DaveWil33@JeremyECrawford@Wizards_DnD I'm gonna be pedantic and say I don't think that applies here because it says a "point of origin for an area of effect." Booming Blade isn't an area of effect.
@DaveWil33@JeremyECrawford@Wizards_DnD This is the tweet I was referencing. Notice the "or" there. That implies some self-range spells do not target the caster. Ruling changes, so I may have missed a more recent one, but again, I asked for a reason.

@DaveWil33@JeremyECrawford@Wizards_DnD Fireball is not a range of self, that's a different situation. There's an old tweet from J.C. making it ambiguous whether or not Booming Blade can be used with War Caster now. Which is why I asked him.
@DaveWil33@JeremyECrawford@Wizards_DnD Except that isn't confirmed yet. It's previously been ruled a range of self either means you're a target of the spell, *or* its point of origin. If Booming Blade makes you the spell's origin, and not a target, I don't see why it wouldn't be valid for War Caster anymore.
@BorksMeme @sohowwasgame Combat is fun, and just because it's a dungeon crawl doesn't mean there can't be RP and intrigue. Though I agree burnout for them is definitely higher than other games.
@JeremyECrawford With some of the rumors going around for the leaks of TCoE, in the future, can WotC provide reasoning for the changes made to UA so the fans can have a greater understanding of how major changes are made to UA when there's only a single round of public playtesting?
