A thousand times this. Also, like many, I cancelled my @nytimes subscription a while ago because I could no longer stomach their appalling descent into Woke-ism and preference for shameless, dogmatic activism over actual journalism.

BUT I do miss Bret Stephens' lone, sane, and often brilliant editorial voice at that former “paper of record,” and I do give him a lot of credit for sticking his neck out in what cannot be an easy work environment. I also hope that he continues to get through to those remaining few NYT readers who are still willing and able to think critically.

Professor Amer Al-Sheikh is a senior surgeon, internationally recognized researcher, and leading expert in urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic floor surgery.

She also serves as a senior clinical lecturer at the Technion Faculty of Medicine.

With the exception of the UAE, there is no other place in the entire Middle East and North Africa where Muslim women enjoy this much opportunity.

This is the last thing I'll write in this thread, and I do mean this with respect and sincerity. I'm assuming you don't live in the Middle East. I don't live in the Middle East, either. I have been incredibly privileged to live in a time and a place where the threat of extremist violence is not something i've had to face, and I'm guessing (perhaps wrongly) the same is true for you. As such, we can afford ourselves the 'luxury belief' that "all violence is wrong." But the truth is, in those other places and times, where unimaginable cruelty and violence are a constant possibility, one's own wielding of violence is not only not 'wrong', but required. When we read history, we realize we are naive to think otherwise.

Hamas is a genocidal cult: Recently uncovered documents from slain Hamas leader and October 7 mastermind Yahya Sinwar reveal the depth of his depravity and the extent to which he knowingly steered Gaza toward catastrophe. Handwritten notes drafted a year before the attack show Sinwar anticipated a ferocious Israeli counter‑offensive, even speculating, in his own words, about the possibility of an Israeli nuclear retaliation on Gaza. Despite uncertainty over whether Iran or Hezbollah would join the fight, he outlined a plan to deploy up to ten thousand fighters from Gaza to seize Israeli towns, expel civilians, hold hostages, and wage what he described as a life‑or‑death battle. These notes align with earlier documents from Sinwar’s archive detailing his intent to use extreme brutality to maximize terror, fear, and psychological trauma among Israelis.

The implications are stark. Hamas’s crimes against humanity were not only committed against Israelis but also against the Palestinian people. The fascist organization employed ISIS‑grade tactics, fully aware that the attack went far beyond any military objective and could provoke overwhelming Israeli retaliation. Sinwar’s delusions were matched only by his ignorance: Israel does not need nuclear weapons to inflict devastating harm on Gaza. Yet Hamas deliberately launched an intentionally genocidal assault, predicting, and banking on, an Israeli survival response that would devastate Gaza and then be weaponized for global sympathy. In doing so, Hamas sacrificed 2.3 million Palestinians for a propaganda strategy.

This alone should compel the immediate, unconditional, and unequivocal rejection of Hamas by anyone claiming to support Palestinian rights. It should erase any doubt that Islamist extremists pose an existential threat to Palestinian survival, freedom, and the possibility of building a society not dragged into wars its rulers knowingly design to be catastrophic. When you are the weaker party facing the most far‑right government in Israel’s history, your obligation is to safeguard your people, not gamble their lives on apocalyptic fantasies. Hamas’s failure to do so is a betrayal worthy of absolute condemnation. It forfeits any Hamas claim to political relevance and demands that those responsible for October 7 be treated as traitors and murderers of their own people.

130 YEARS TOO LATE

Last year, France 🇫🇷 has finally corrected a historic wrong: they posthumously awarded Captain Alfred Dreyfus the title of Brigadier General. This week, they finally gave a statue of him a permanent home, outside the courthouse that exonerated him.

Dreyfus was infamously and wrongly charged with treason, in a flagrantly antisemitic trial in 1894.

The young Theodore Herzl was a reporter on the case. It’s what made him understand that Jews would never be considered equal in France.

Herzl would go on to write the Jewish State, which gave a blueprint and vision for what would eventually become the State of Israel. He is regarded as the father of modern Zionism.

How ironic that France would wait until reality has proven Herzl so tragically correct to try to make amends.

Since October 7th, 6,500 French Jews made aliyah. The community is adamant that the government protect them. The Jews who are alive, today, in France. The ones who don’t want to have to abandon their home.

So what did the government do? Apologize for something that happened over a century ago, and give a place of honor to a statue, rather than protect living human beings.

This is too little, too late. Historical gestures mean little if they’re not matched by action in the present.

We need you to do more than commemorate dead Jews.

We need you to fight for Jews who are still alive.

I could have posted the easy video today.

Ro Khanna’s story fell apart. My side is celebrating. The algorithm would have loved it.

But the same week, radical settlers attacked a CNN crew with rods and a knife. And in March of this year, rioters spent six hours burning villages while the Iron Dome soldiers were defending Tel Aviv from Iran.
